Recommendations please. Mobile phone plans that include international calls or a plan that allows Hot Spot so I can make wifi calls.

Some friends & relations will download Skype or similar but there are some that won’t so I need to make calls back to Australia a few times a month.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post asks for recommendations on mobile phone plans in Thailand that include international calls or support WiFi calling to Australia. Various users share their experiences with different services and apps, such as Vodafone's roaming plan from Australia, Amaysim's international plan, and various free calling options like Skype, Messenger, and Yolla. Other suggestions include switching to Thai SIM cards with data plans that allow free WiFi calling and using discount codes for international calls.

Amaysim has 365 day roaming sim

If your phone uses a removable SIM card

Just buy a Thai SIM with unlimited data plan

(Will include some minutes of making calls anywhere IN Thailand)

Change out your home phone SIM = you are set to go,

What I did = Bought an inexpensive Smart Phone IN Thailand and installed a SIM.

Cheap and easy

If your Home country phone has WIFI calling ability you then have your home phone to make calls back home as long as your connect itvto a WIFI source

Messenger, whatsapp, line, skype and probbably a lot more that i don't know about.

Use Line or WhatsApp, most Thais use it and you can make free video/phone calls. Plus get an AIS plan phone/data, under 600 baht unlimited.

Have a look at esim

I just put my phone on Flight Mode and use available wi fi.

in Flight Mode a phone won't send or receive anything. 🙄

well I just use the wo of my hotel ,cafe beach etc all my contacts are on what's app, messenger, Linevetc.

So I disagreevwithbyou.

Flight mode shuts of roaming etc.

I spent two months over seas last year, on month so far this year, 10 weeks coming up.

Apart from paying my monthlybvodo phone contract I have not spent a cent on usage.

I think you're confusing "flight mode" with "mobile data". When in flight mode your phone becomes a glorified camera. When in flight mode your phone closes all signals, incoming and outgoing. Rather than disagreeing with me, just tap your aeroplane ✈️ and see what happens 555

I am confusing nothing.

I use Skype for outgoing calls and I have unlimited plan for $29 AUD a month. Connection is stable and clear

If they won't DL the Messenger, LINE, or similar FREE apps to see, hear, or communicate you, are they worth having in your NOW life???

All 3 Thai mobile carriers provide cheap discount international calling codes. For dtac , it is
*****
, for AIS , it is
*****
, for True, it is
*****
. So, for example, you dial the UK (country code 44) by dialing
*****
44 and the phone number. You can look up the rates to your country by Google searching terms like "AIS
*****
Rates".

I have a second cellphone I use as a wifi hotspot for my us phone. My tello and mint do wifi calling back to the USA for 0 extra. If I want to call local use line or for real call I need to add talk time to plan, as I only have $10 a month data on the AIS sim

Switch off mobile date switch on WiFi calling happy days lots of free WiFi everywhere

@Sue *********
Allow access to your contacts when installing the app,and you don't have to punch in phone numbers every time.

I always use Skype for international landline or mobile calls as their rates are extremely low (as little as a few cents per CALL). I loaded $10 about 3 years ago and still have a $4 balance!

@Mark *******
I’ll use Skype where possible

I use a pre-paid VERY inexpensive per-minute VOIP phone service called YOLLA. Not nearly as involved as Skype. Been working great for 6 months now. But, I use it for calls to the USA. I do not know how well it would work to down under.
Brian *******
Get the Yolla App, only a few cents a minute to call Aus

I use Facebook Messenger for free to call my family and Mytello for business calls for just a few baht . About 5 calls up to 15 minutes have cost me about 150 baht . Thanks again to the person who told me about Mytello .
Wayne *********
If they have messenger you can call them them using data/wifi.
Tony *********
Just ad one of these packs before you come but you have to join Amaysim.
Tony *********
I use Amaysim which allows me to still make calls and send sms back to Australia
Bob ********
Just use Skype, or if your phone allows it download an amaysim Esim from Australia, put an $10 or whatever value international call package on it, and turn on international roaming via the app as you need it. Then turn it off, then you can also get messages from Australia even though it's turned off. I have one with 100mins now for 2 years, just turn it on and off as I need it
Sue **********

@Bob *******
dumb question. It’s 100 mins total talk time ?
Bob ********
Yes, I turn mine off until I need it because otherwise you get junk calls and messages coming through as well and as soon as you answer a junk call the 100 mins start to go down
Tony *********
@Bob *******
I don't even have to turn mine on or off . It knows when I land in Thailnd
Taz **********
Vodafone in Australia has $5 per day roaming

You are only charged one time when you make or receive a call or use data

I pay $40/ month then when I use the Vodafone sim I get charged $5, however then I can call as many ppl that I want for the day & the maximum charge is $5 for that day

There is a cap on the number of days in 12 months
Ralph *******
@Taz *********
That’s cheap! $8 a day in New Zealand.
