Hello, any recommendations for health insurance for DTV holder on a soft power? I would like one where I donโt advance money and that covers well including hospitalization. Ideally not only in Thailand but also SEA or even better anywhere in the world when i travel.
I currently have a travel/nomad one but I have to advance the money each time and justify thoroughly after. Lately the universe decided to remind me, a little bit too much, that we can all die at any moment so I d appreciate if anyone has an advice on a good insurance that removes the stress of wondering if I will be reimbursed a 50k hospital stay for ex.
Thank you all ๐๐ผ

TLDR : Answer Summary
A DTV holder in Thailand is seeking recommendations for health insurance that allows direct billing for medical services without requiring upfront payment. Users have suggested several international insurers such as Nowhealth International, Allianz, and AIA, which can cover hospital costs directly with certain facilities. Insightful comments highlight the challenge in finding plans that cover global travel and direct billing at hospitals in Thailand and SEA. Many expats emphasize the need for a robust policy that minimizes the financial burden of medical emergencies.
I have Nowhealth international. Worldwide excluding USA which makes it more affordable. They have direct billing for bumrungrad and often also Bangkok hospital
Not happening. But just need to downscale your hopes. Allianz and Axxa are two of the major players here. The challenge is finding any insurance company that can accomodate direct billing. In thailand, with specific hospitals, this might be possible. But extending to SE Asia and the world is not realistic. You will be paying in advance and submitting the bills for refund. Which they may or may not approve or not pay 100% if they do approve.
PassionateAvocado367 mine pays direct to the hospital for pre-approved stuff but it's also only in-patient. You are looking for a upper level policy. WR Life has been good for us.
Vic Rollins more of a yearly plan, as one would get with a job, you donโt advance money you give your insurance information and they send the bills to them
Andy Bee correct, obviously I will be paying a monthly/yearly plan. I was speaking not advancing medical fee they just take my insurance info and send bills to them. Like the insurance you d get with your work, the monthly/yearly plan is paid by your employer often but in my case I would be the one paying it
PassionateAvocado367 ah OK I misunderstood what you were saying. Many Thai health insurance companies operate that way. I use AIA and they will pay the hospital, but you usually have to hang around until the payment goes through unless you get it pre-approved
I have AIA as well. I thought they were only for long term visas. We did have to pay upfront for hernia surgery, but AIA covered it all after we submitted all the paperwork about one week later. I think thatโs normal here.
I believe it is like Andy Bee states; I think you are misunderstanding the question. I donโt think the OP is asking about having to pay the premiums, simply about โdirectโ billing rather than having to wait to be reimbursed for the cost of incurred expenses.
