Hi! I just got my DTV 5 year visa approved. What is a good travel insurance to buy before I go?

I am in my 20s, from the USA, and ideally just need the basics including medical. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user recently received approval for a 5-year DTV visa and is seeking recommendations for travel insurance focused on basics, particularly medical coverage. Commenters suggest considering both medical and travel insurance, mentioning that medical insurance may be cheaper in Thailand. Recommendations for specific providers include AIA, AXA, Luma, Allianz, and Safetywing. Additionally, the user is advised to compare deals directly through insurers rather than brokerage sites, and links to insurance comparison websites are shared.

I recommend AXA.

Allianz annual travel insurance. But it is only good for 90 from home and they check.

Works for me because I fly back and forth every 2-3 months

I've heard some of the digital YouTubers raving about Safetywing. Don't know how it compares to other providers. Just not worth the risk of not having insurance here.

If you intend to be in Thailand long term then you’ll want medical insurance and travel insurance.

Travel insurance generally only covers for x number of days, but works well for flight delays or lost baggage and such.

Medical insurance is probably way cheaper to buy in Thailand. Check out policies from AIA, AXA, Luma, Allianz etc. buy direct from the company rather than a brokerage site that claims to offer the cheapest deals for expats.

Or use an agent like

who works with all the leading providers and can show you comparable deals.
