What are my options for remaining in Thailand after receiving conflicting information from the Canadian Embassy regarding visa extensions?

Embassy of Canada told me that they would still not issue extension letters, but also that they are not needed when applying for any long-term visas within the country. This does seem to render the 30 day extension inapplicable, for my case.

Combined with today's announcement of a 9 month visa for foreigners that is said to start next month, what are my best options for remaining in the country at this point?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is confused about their visa situation in Thailand after the Canadian Embassy stated that extension letters are not needed for long-term visas, leading them to believe a 30-day extension is unnecessary. They mention an upcoming 9-month visa but are unsure how it applies to their current situation. Comments clarify that the new visa is not available in Thailand and that the user needed to apply for a long-term visa earlier.

When did you last talk to the Canadian Consulate here in thailand? I ask because the Embassy of Canada is indeed issuing the letters

AND

Unless I'm mistaken they're a little off base with their "you don't need the 30 day extension to get an in country long term visa" It's too late for you to apply for an in country long term visa from amnesty right now. You needed at least 15 days left on amnesty and that means you needed to apply last Friday the 11th.

Just so you know; The cabinet announcement means nothing at all, it was approved "in principle" <- meaning they agreed to hash out the details in the near future PLUS it only affects people who are OUTSIDE of the country who want to com here and has nothing to do with people already inside now.

here's a canadian embassy letter dated the 8th of Sept so they ARE issuing them

as of when? They were fighting tooth an nail against my friend asking even a few days ago. On what grounds did this person get it, or was there a policy change

Maybe a policy change

or maybe the reason for the request. I didn't think embassies have a blanket policy of issuing these letters

Thank you Tod. I'll give it another go, despite them mentioning not issuing this extension letter at this time. I wonder if it was an auto-generated reply, as it has some similarities to the last email I got from them.

The proposed 3+3+3 nine month tourist visa will not be issued inside Thailand.

yes, but it doesn’t mean they will not adapt to the situation. It look a little bit strange to approve this kind of visa right now and don’t let people who are still stuck here (for any reasons) be abble to apply to this new visa. Kick out people for let them come back few weeks later, seems stupid to me.

It really look like an attempt to legally give people the possibility to stay and not doing overstay. Hope i am right lol.

Extend amnesty for 30 days + give people the possibility to apply to this new visa next month, look really logical to me. This is economically smart for them as well.
