Embassy of Canada told me that they would still not issue extension letters, but also that they are not needed when applying for any long-term visas within the country. This does seem to render the 30 day extension inapplicable, for my case.

Combined with today's announcement of a 9 month visa for foreigners that is said to start next month, what are my best options for remaining in the country at this point?
