I tried to apply for tourist visa online, but they want proof of airfares in and out, as well as itinerary and a hotel booking for everyday I plan to remain in Thailand. Also 3 months of banking. I don't want to pay for a hotel in advance of my visa approval and a flight BEFORE getting a visa. Is there any other way? Thank you for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking for alternatives to submitting advance hotel bookings and flight proof for a tourist visa application for Thailand. Comments suggest booking flexible arrangements that can be canceled after the visa is approved, and sharing personal experiences of using minimal documentation for the visa, such as only needing a temporary booking and one bank statement. Some recommend printing the booking page before payment to satisfy visa requirements.

actually the Thai Embassy in Switzerland told me that. Nobody wants to book in real a Hotel for 3 Months in advance. I do that for every Country i need Visa since Years, works fine. 👍

Which visa, multiple entry or single. I only showed 7 day hotel booking and one bank statement and all fine. I then cancelled the hotel after the visa was agreed. You couod just buy a 10 pound ferry ticket to malaysia to show you leaving

Embassy requirements vary. Most accept a short-term booking and an onward ticket within 90 days if requested. Some, however, require a booking for the full intended stay and an onward ticket within the initial 60-day period of entry. If a tourist visa is necessary and the embassy enforces these rules, the only option is to make a booking—which can later be canceled—and secure a low-cost ticket departing after 60 days.

Book things you can cancel for free after submitting the visa.

What is your passport nation?

Where are you planning on submitting the Thai Visa application?

Why are you wanting to apply for the SETV single entry tourist visa?

Have you been told by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival to get a Thai Visa next time you seek to enter Thailand?

What is your recent history of entry and or staying in Thailand?

Also I was not told directly to apply for the setv, but I've already applied. Can I just get the visa except on arrival?
James ********
@Philip ******
you are eligible for the Visa Exempt Entry into Thailand. Gets you 60 days STAMP on arrival Plus one 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1,900 Thai baht.

Hi, James. I hold a Canadian passport. I've already applied for the visa from Vietnam. I was in Thailand 3 months ago and stayed for 3 months. I've been twice now in the last 10 years.

@Philip ******
so you are seeking to get the SETV single entry tourist visa as a way to stay in Thailand for another 90 days (60+30) ? Back to back entries into Thailand, either by Visa Exempt Entry or with a SETV single entry tourist visa may cause you to be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival.

Be prepared to answer Why you want to stay in Thailand? You're not a tourist.

Have a booking for your initial week or so in Thailand, show ticket departing Thailand within the 59 days of your arrival into Thailand, and 20,000 Thai baht in CASH if asked by the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you on arrival.

Were there any other recent history of visits to Thailand other than the 3 months stay you just completed?

been to Thailand 2 times in a decade, but did a border bounce to Cambodia and back in 2024. They didn't like that, so technically, this is my third entry in 10 years
