My Thai wife and I will be relocating to Thailand next February from the UK. I have the necessary funds to park in a Thai bank account. I have already had our marriage certificate legalised by the foreign office and the Thai embassy in London. We plan on getting a marriage visa and are looking to use an agent to simplify the process. Any advice from anyone who has gone through this would be greatly appreciated. How long it takes, cost etc.

Yes of course you still have to get the correct documentation but you get all your ducks lined up in a row before you need all this stuff some of the stuff sounds incredibly confusing having to wait till the exact day only have 14 days only have 3 days only have 45 days wow what a mess I'm not going to do a marriage one but when I finally do pull the trigger on this I'm going to use a service and I won't have to ask all these questions other than I'm reading them for fun

I'm assuming you were married in the UK.. in which case have you had a copy of your UK marriage certificate translated into Thai and stamped by the Thai Embassy.. although its not absolutely clear it seems that you may have done this already.. in which case you should be able to avoid further authentication by the MoFA in Thailand.. and simply use the UK/Thai versions you already have to register the marriage at your local Amphur.. however if you show up in Thailand without an Embassy stamp on a translated document that's not the case ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am far from an expert but I see so many problems people have on here and or perhaps simple questions that I would have as well.

Just use one of the agencies I've looked up the price in American dollars it's about 300 so that means for British pounds it's probably around 250 I think it sounds like it's going to be well well worth paying for that it'll drop your stress level down to

of what it is now

Glen Prince I don't think you'll find an agent quoting those sort of prices.. indicative quotes found online are rarely representative of the real deal.. once you start talking to an agent the price escalates substantially.. although i accept there can be huge variations depending on your location and particular needs ๐Ÿ‘

Get the Non Imm O evisa before you travel. Season your funds in a Thai bank for 2 months and then apply for the 12 months extension of stay ๐Ÿ‘

Stephen Wilson . . Doug Mann already mentioned it, but didn't tell you what to do first . . . . . .there is one step most people forget: you need to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok and get your marriage documents "co-Legalized". Only then you will be able to register the marriage on the local Amphur. For the application to the 1-year marriage extension, you will have to show Immigration a freshly printed Kor Ror 22 marriage registry paper

Greg Alexander the marriage certificate that has been legalised in UK needs to be translated into Thai before going to MFA. The translation office I used provided the service of getting it legalised at the MFA and sending it to me by courier as I was short of time to hang around.

To register the marriage at the amphur, you also need a translation of your passport and at the amphur in my wife's district, they need two witnesses.

Peter Cox he wrote: he already got his marriage documents certified from Milton Keynes, and got them legalized by the Royal Thai Embassy in London. We don't know if the embassy has legalized an already existing translation into Thai. If yes, then this means the only thing missing is a co-legalization by the MfA. For a registration into the central Thai marriage registry, normally an Amphur does not need any further documentation (like a passport translation and two witnesses), however as each Amphur can differ slighty from another one, your information is valuable for Stephen Wilson. With all he knows now, he is ready to expect something unexpected.

Greg Alexander in the process of getting an official translation at the moment. It then has to go back to the Royal Thai embassy in London to be certified. Lots of hoops to jump through. Just trying to get as much done as we can before we fly.

Greg Alexander From Gemini AI...The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Passport and Legalization Office in Pattaya is located on the 4th floor of Central Pattaya. Is this correct?
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
Stephen Wilson yes, there is a satellite office of the MfA in Pattaya inside the Central. The main branch is in the Thanon Si Ayutthaya in Bangkok. If you happen to be in Pattaya, I recommend using the Central Pattaya branch, because you won't need an appointment, can do a walk-in. At the main MfA in Bangkok you need an appointment

If you are over 50, You could apply for an OA visa in the UK that will give you 12 months multi entry, leave Thailand just before it expires and you will get another 12 months

You will need to register your marriage in Thailand before you can apply for an extension based on being married to Thai. The process to do that can vary depending on which Amphur you are registering in.

As others have mentioned, the retirement visa is a much simpler process! I did that instead of the married to Thai visa.

Doug Mann you are half-way through: first thing is, he needs to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok and get his marriage documents "co-Legalized". Only after that he can register the marriage on a local Amphur

Well done for getting your UK marriage cert apostilled, and the translation certified by the embassy. Your wife can also get the marriage registered at the amphur. You will need a bank account to deposit you 400k. The non-O visa based on marriage is pretty easy, but open bank account ASAP when you get here. Some offices require that the funds must show as an international transfer. Your local immigration office will have list of requirements for your extension. Good luck

Maybe if paperwork's in order, 90 day Non -O from embassy in UK before you leave. Arrive and open bank account, deposit funds, apply for 12 month extension.

The Marriage Visa requires 400,000 seasoned in your bank but it comes with many hoops to jump through. Your wife must accompany you to the Immigration Office., you need to provide a range of photo and the officers are very strict with the requirements. Immigration will not give you the visa on the day that you visit but will tell you to come back in two weeks. Meanwhile, two Immigration officers will visit and inspect your home to check that you really are a couple and they will want a neighbour to be in attendance and will quiz him to prove that you really are a couple. 2 weeks later you have to go back to Immigration for your visa. If you can season 800,000 Thai Baht and are over 50 you can get a Retirement visa the same day without all the hoops for the Marrige Visa. I am married to a Thai and have had both types of visa over the years. Now I will only get the Retirement visa. Using an agent is a waste as you have to give the agent the same documentation as you need to give the Immigration Officer.

Paul Darby so many incorrect in your answer, the NON-O visit thai family when you apply in your homecountry is different from applying for extension for 1 year, guess you just forgot that in your incorect information and you seem not to know what a visa is compared to an extension

No point using an agent for a marriage visa in my opinion. Immigration will still come to visit you at home even if you have an agent. When you decide where you will be living the best thing to do is visit the local immigration and ask for a list of required documentation. They will all most likely have different rules. Also iirc form the end of August all the NON-O type visas will be amalgamated into just NON-O . Currently marriage and retirement are slightly different. No idea of any of the document requirements will also change. Itโ€™s also probable that you will be able at some point to do all the paperwork via the THIMS app. Apparently this is the plan. Anyway Iโ€™d wait until September before you start just in case things change
