Should we allow anonymous posts in Facebook groups?

Facebook has forced anonymous posts on groups (in the form of nickname aliases). It's no longer a setting that can be turned off.

I have been denying every anonymous post with the comment that we do not accept these posts. MANY people do not read the comments that Facebook sends, and just see that their post was rejected.

Do you think we should allow them?

(If you did not know, admins and mods can see who submits anonymous posts so they're only anonymous to the other group members)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the recent enforcement of anonymous posts in Facebook groups, which has led to a debate about whether such posts should be allowed. Some members argue that anonymity provides necessary privacy for sensitive topics, while others believe it diminishes the quality of interactions and may lead to misuse. The complexity of managing anonymous posts is further compounded by the need for detailed responses that require specific user information, particularly in groups focused on topics like immigration and visas.

Try making an anonymous only group. Only anonymous post and replies are accepted. See how much credibility that group would have. C'mon people if you want credible responses anonymous will not work. I'm not sure how serious I would take a post made by someone anonymous. Past experience, anonymous posters are usually trouble makers or attempting to do something they would not do in their normal life.

Also to be honest their might be certain profiles that we lend expertise credibility to.

I say allow them. Anonymity doesn’t have much to do with post quality and there are lots of reasons people might want to be anonymous. We asked questions anonymously on various groups about visas for a while because our kids didn’t know we were contemplating a move yet (we kept it secret until after one got married to avoid stealing attention from the wedding). Same might apply for someone whose exit includes leaving a relationship. And some might be giving sensitive info about their financial means.

Lots of pertinent details can be gleaned from posts that aren't anonymous by checking a user's FB profile and past group post history. If they want real privacy they can lock their profile.

I manage several FB groups and my experience is that people posting anonymously are looking for approval to do something they know is against the law, the rules, or ethics.

On the visa pages the anonymous comments often tend to be rude and obnoxious.

Your third option violates FB's terms. Tagging the poster removes their anonymity

Why is it that Anonymous Posts should be rejected? Many, many Posts asking a question that do NOT provide the bare minimum adequate information to give a pertinent and informed answer, such as Country of Passport, location of 1 of 94 Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate submitted E–Visa Application, location of 1 of 87 local Thai Immigration Office as each can and does have different and specific requirements, etc.

if it's Anonymous, then the only realistic way to give pertinent and useful information is thru multiple back-and-forth threads to determine details....

Since the admin can approve or deny, why ban anonymous posts? People have their reasons for wanting privacy, in in private groups. 🤷🏽‍♂️ if it is a scare tactics post, or just speculation, but honestly, why does it matter the poster's name?

Id like to ask those who want anon posts banned . . . why? What difference does it make if know who posted or not? Seems a bit weird to me

annoyance. Usually trouble makers. Cowardly comments.

My experience is that Anonymous posters have less accountability. It is also difficult sometimes for good responses to happen when identity isn't known. Threading and following can get difficult when there are Anonymous people responding to Anonymous posters.

I don't know why anyone cares if others post anonymously or not. Why do we need to know the name of the person who made a post, what difference does it make?
