Is there any 'official' set of rules for posting to this Facebook group so I can know what questions I can and cannot ask? So far I find my experience to be inhospitable to new members when they ask something wrong.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Members of the Thai Visa Advice Facebook group seek clarity on the posting guidelines to prevent inhospitable interactions for newcomers. Several comments highlight the need for comprehensive rules regarding acceptable questions, the importance of searching past messages before posting, and the prohibition of ads for paid services from visa agents or lawyers. Members emphasize the group's goal of providing accurate visa and immigration information, despite sometimes being seen as blunt or unwelcoming. Moderators encourage a respectful approach while asserting that not all members may fit the group's style.
I messaged you about this as well but you didn't check or read them.
ALL MEMBERS:
The point of the group is to help people and we've helped many many thousands of people over the years be able to navigate thru their entry/visa/extension issues.
Unfortunately it's not a "let me pat you on the back and make you feel good" sort of group π It's one that is designed to give you the most accurate and up to date entry/visa/extension information about thailand available on the inter-web. And consistently it delivers on that. It does so in a no nonsense, matter of fact, way that is off putting to some people.
Sadly, often times the answer you want to hear ISN'T the correct answer and that makes us the bearer of bad news to more than a few people. Which doesn't negate the answers we give in the least degree..
This also isn't a group to ask "how did it go for you" because unless someone has the exact same entry/stay history, same nationality, same circumstances any "how did it go" is purely anecdotal and not worth anything.
Entry/Visa/Extension information for thailand It is one of the most knowledge intensive topics for a group about this country. You only need to look at the other alleged "visa advice" groups out there to see that most of those have less than useful answers.
We freely admit this group isn't for everyone. Maybe you and those other 11 people need to find another group for your entry/visa/extension questions.
That's not taking a shot at you or the people dissatisfied with the group, just saying if you don't like the group by all means feel free to invite yourself to leave it and get your answers some where else.
You all managed to get out of your country, get half way around the world to this country on your own without your mom holding you hand, we're going to treat you like the responsible adults you are (or should be acting like π ).
I can't speak for the other mods, but I'm not here to be your friend, I don't want to get on your christmas card list. I want to give you the correct answer to your question and have it work out for you. Now if that is "inhospitable", well so be it.
Sincerly good luck with your entry/visa/extension endeavors (y)
....The advice is given by all members; please do not advertise or post referrals to any kind
of Visa Agents, Lawyers or Accounting offices inside Thailand who provide paid services.
....We will delete or ask you to delete your comment or advertisement.
....The page is named Thai Visa Advise, so please keep your questions Thai Visa related, if your question is not related, your topic may get closed to commenting or deleted, (with a comment why it was closed).
....Using the correct terminology is important, we cannot see your passport so we do not know what kind of stamp or Visa is inside.
....Please if questions are asked, answer or place a picture without your personal details of the stamp or Visa.
....Everybody is doing their best to give advice to the best of their knowledge, please do not judge, or make jokes of other peoples requests or comments.
....If you canβt give any advice just scroll to the next question.
....Visas and Extensions of Stay are in many cases personally related, to avoid miscommunication and confusion only comment on the original question.
....If you have questions yourself, please make a new topic.
....We can give advice but be aware the last decision is always in the hands of Immigration Officer, we cannot guarantee that the advice given will be 100 % successful to obtain the visa, extension of stay or entrance into Thailand.
Thank you for the guidelines and I'll try to follow these.
I just want to call attention to the fact that so far 11 people have agreed with me that this Facebook group can be sometimes inhospitable to new members asking questions and I think the replies to messages by moderators who disagree with questions should be kept professional and concise since the point of this group is to help people.
