Is it true, when applying for a 60 day Thai tourist visa (australian passport) FROM THE PHILIPPINES you need an onward air ticket for say 60th day, even though you will later extend for 30 days? ie wish to enter thailand with only an onward ticket for 90th day, not both.

They do not expect bus tickets unless you have a visa for the country you are travelling into on the bus. Sometimes they do issue it but it is luck. Also the airline may reject you too when you check in and they will want proof of onward travel. Again they airlines do expect bus tickets unless you have visa for the country the bus ticket goes too.

I would first check the consulate will accept a bus ticket.

Manila is not the best choice for trying to fob off another mode of transport IF they are asking for flights.

I'm still maintaining that something is being lost here in how the blogger is coming across. I'll have money on it that's it not the consulate that's wanting it but the airline check in desks.

I'm not even sure if you could book a bus ticket 2 or 3 months in advance.

I will buy onward ticket for 90th day assuming I get 30 day extension in thailand.  My issue is thai embassy in philippines apparently wants ticket for 60th day. I do not want to buy 2 onward tickets

Whatever the Thai consulate want in Manila, your issue will be boarding your flight to Thailand. With no onward flight from Thailand, they simply won't board you.

Thai consulate in taiwan do require the onward tickets for foreigne passport holders who asking tourist visa.(and on the stamp the visa is from thai embassy in Phillipines) just didn't know if in Phillipines they ask the same document.  But I've heard also you can show the booking, not really open the tickets.
