If you go for a SETV (60 days), lets say in HCM (+ 30 days at immigration later on), must you then show a return flight ticket that is valid after 60 days or 90 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) for 60 days, proof of onward travel may be requested either at the Thai consulate when applying for the visa or upon arriving in Thailand. Generally, you can show a ticket that is valid for up to 90 days from the entry stamp, given that you can potentially extend your stay for an additional 30 days. However, there is no strict requirement that proof of onward travel must be dated after the 60-day stamp, and this can depend on the discretion of the immigration officer. It is advisable to have a flexible or refundable ticket as evidence of onward travel.

I buy bus ticket from BKK to PP that is scheduled to leave 45 days after my expected day of arrival into Thailand. This way I show evidence of why I need a visa and not visa exempt. Bus tickets are cheaper than flights

There are TWO times you're likely to be asked for proof of onward travel

One is at a thai consulate getting a tourist visa where that consulate has a proof of onward travel requirement <- in this instance you're usually able to show them proof of onward travel within 60 - 90 days because they know you can get a 30 day extension on the 60 day stamp.

The other one is when you are stamping IN to thailand <-in this instance you're also usually able to show proof of onward travel within 60 - 90 days because they too know you can get a 30 day extension

BUT

Neither instance HAS to accept proof of onward travel that shows you're leaving AFTER the date you're going to get stamped in for. :O

Meaning BOTH the thai consulate AND the immigration people at passport control CAN ask for proof of travel within 60 days IF they want to hard line you about it. So no one can really say other than "legally" your proof of onward travel must be dated within the stamp you'd get entering thailand.

Given that, it makes sense to always keep it legit with your proof of onward travel. Purchase an open/refundable ticket and always be ready to provide it (at the consulate and at immigration on the way in)

How about if the O/P states whether the proof of onward travel they're asking about is when they BUY their tourist visa from the thai consulate

OR

when you stamp into the country?

You will be fine with your ticket for 88 days if asked.

Entering the country is usually fine but the Consulate may want to see onward travel within 60 days

The Single Entry Tourist Visa gives you 60 days of stay. Every Thai Consulate know that you can extend your stay with another 30 days. But it is the decision of the employee at the Consulate to accept onward travel within 60 days or 90 days.

Terry Williams Not really "confusing". A visa, issued by a Consulate, doesnt guarantee you entry into the country. It's up to Immigration, just like it is in every other country
Robert *******
What can I say. It is as much confusing as what is a tourist and what is a person who makes 2.000 Euro in one day while staying in Thailand pretending to be a tourist. With the correct Visa, you would not have these confusions.

yes and that makes it rather confusing doesn't it

If you are asked on entry, within 60 days...whether you are asked depends on the mood of the immigration officer and or your history ๐Ÿ™‚

You would also need other evidence such as 20,000 baht cash (or equivalent cash in another currency) and accomodation etc

@Terry *********
it's the technicality, there is no 100% guarantee you will be granted the 30 day extension, before it's granted - although we all know it will in all likelihood be granted. Most people buy refundable tickets ๐Ÿ™‚

@Glen ********
, it is sort of stupid because it makes you event.. buy 2 tickets if u are granted 30 days (which most people do anyway)

@Terry *********
it would be again, within 60 days - you have not yet been granted the 30 days extension ๐Ÿ™‚

Do i have to show a return flight ticket out of Thailand after 60 days or 90 days? - when i do a SETV application there
Mehran ******
Glen Yeah, I asked about that specifically and they said in the case of a visa exemption/SETV upon entry into the country at immigration, they've never heard of anyone asking for proof of accommodation at the airport.

I think when applying for the SETV/METV at the embassies abroad, they'll ask, yeah. Also possibly entries for other types of visas maybe? I'm not sure. But I specifically asked this question and that's what I was told regarding exemptions and SETV only. If I'm mistaken/wrong, my apologies.

I've never been asked for either upon entry.

not sure who told you they don't ask for proof of accommodation, the Admins often refer to the "3" proofs, not 2

i have all the papers incl. a copy of my lease agreement as well. But do i have to show a return ticket out of Thailand after 60 days or 90 days when i do a SETV application there. (I have one prepaid flight ticket out of Thailand after 88 days from the point of a new SETV application made)
Mehran ******
I was told in this group that they don't ask for accommodation proof in this case. Just the 20k thb and onward travel, IF they decide to ask
Glen *********
Terry Williams if you are asked for evidence of flights then they would likely ask for ALL the proofs required.

People get asked often, depending on their history etc...if you don't have they can refuse entry, as they do

I am specifically talking about on ENTRY to Thailand as I explained earlier
