Hello,

I was planning on going over to teach English in a school in Chonburi in the next month or so. I nearly have my visa sorted just have to book flights and quarantine for the last step but I'm not sure if I should wait until next year to go with covid-19. Any advice would be really appreciated! ☺️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around a person planning to teach English in Chonburi while navigating the complexities of obtaining a visa during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several commenters provide insights, noting that while the COVID risk is currently low, the complexities of travel restrictions and quarantine requirements may pose challenges. Some suggest considering a longer wait due to the unpredictability surrounding travel and schooling, while others emphasize that Thailand always needs teachers and that finding a job may still be feasible.

I taught in Chon Buri , I loved it. But like others have said, there is no shortage of jobs, there will always be schools/ kindergartens recruiting English teachers. It may be difficult to get your teaching license, due to the travel required maybe...? Or the right visa requirements. I'd wait personally. My flights have been cancelled twice now 😔 happy to help if you have any queries 👍🏽🙏🏽

English skills in Thai education is one of the worst in the world yet as a country it has the most foreign English teachers....

There was a guy from the US that was on my flight last week. He got everything done in 3 weeks. It depends on the school, how fast and hard they work on your case.

Be patient, wait for next year. Thailand always needs teachers.

We are about Covid free but quaranteed is expensive and mentally draining.

Right now is lockdown for most.be patient and study thai.

What??!! Thailand is not in lockdown. And no place is Covid free or immune from future outbreaks. Nobody knows what the future Thai admittance policy will be.
Steve **********
@Edward *******
we have not had a case in 3 months. Less than 40 died. Lockdown in place with quarantine for very limited groups.

Your right noone knows tomorrow. But we do know today.

Lockdown and or quaranteed for limited folks. No new cases but being very cautious.

1. Where is lockdown going on in Thailand? The only reported quarantines are people who are entering the country.

2. Recent case.

@Edward *******
that's what lockdown is. The country in lockdown with a few exceptions, each of which must be quarantined. I believe the last recorded case was a jail intern, dont know details.
เอ็ดเวิร์ด *******
You’re defining lock down by saying that’s what lockdown is. My friends in Chiangmai say things are pretty open there. I was in Guam when it was in real lock down a few weeks ago. Beach is closed. All public parks closed. Only take out. Anytime of the day.

@Edward *******
Guam is a US territory.

@Steve *********
Yes it is, that is why I was able to go back to Korea. But it has it's own rules re quarantining, lockdowns, etc, made by the territory's governor primarily it seems

It doesn’t matter if she’s Jesus Christ, if she’s not in the waiver categories she doesn’t qualify for entrance.

Thanks for the reply, is a working visa not included in the waiver categories?
เอ็ดเวิร์ด *******
Does she already have a work permit. Getting one while she’s out of the country is nigh near impossible From what others have posted. Best of luck

@Edward *******
you dont need the work permit you need MFA approval which her school applies for. Work permit is issued in country. They will not issue visa until MFA approval

I'm on the last step of getting it I just have to provide flight and quarantine details to apply for the last bit, maybe that is where I would find the problem!

if you can get a job first that is ideal but may be difficult at the moment as others have mentioned. Otherwise come on the new special tourist visa with all your paperwork and police check done and so on and then find a job here. Most jobs now will only accept applicants already in the country.

Daily life is almost back to normal here except the tourism part. Once you get all your paperwork done, make sure to book hotel quarantine ASAP from their list since it’s very very expensive because the lower cost ones are mostly booked. I know a teacher came in recently and had to pay almost

baht and the food they give you was very basic and repetitive. Bring some snacks / food that don’t need to be cooked with you to eat during quarantine.

I highly doubt that you could be here in a month as its a complicated process and there's limited numbers allowed. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, good to know, I might wait until next year so!

@Sarah ************
start planning now and you should be able to get here by next year. Just expect everything to take time, be a bit confusing and probably keep changing by the day!
Paul ********
Well that goes without saying so what’s your point?
Charles ****************
@Paul *******
That the world and Thailand is not Europe - centric.

Some of use refuse to eat beans on toast.
Paul ********
@Charles ***************
I don’t eat beans on toast I’m a Spaghetti kind of guy. I know what your agenda is so bye
Paul ********
@David *********
she is a teacher and she will jump the que as they are struggling for teachers here from Europe. Safer here hun
Charles ****************
@Paul *******
Are you saying all non Asian teachers are from Europe?

Non from North America?
Paul ********
@Charles ***************
no I understand from the government releases that they want more English speaking teachers in schools because of the Tinglish that is spoken by educated children in Thailand.
Charles ****************
@Paul *******
Therefore, they want westerners from western countries which include North America.
David **********
@Paul *******
yes but nonetheless I would not assume it to be that quick given how slow and overwhelmed the bureaucracy is here right now. They can't even process the visas and permits for the teachers already here...... Many are working without permits as its taking months to process. All I'm saying is expect it to take longer but maybe with luck it's possible!
David **********
Close to zero covid risk here if that's what you are concerned about
