Should I renew my wife's passport before applying for a dependent DTV visa after the gay marriage law takes effect?

So basically trying to get the dependent DTV for my wife after the gay marriage law comes into effect this 22nd.
Her passport expires November 2025, and its currently Jan.
My question is:
should we renew her passport first and THEN get the visa (American) but I have no idea how to do that while abroad. Nor how long it takes.
OR is it okay to do it now, and when she renews, do they cut out the DTV from the old passport and re-apply it to the new one?

I would say though, if you can GET a new passport because if you're applying for a FIVE YEAR visa you might as well have a passport that is valid for the duration of the visa.

The DTV is not a "sticker visa" so even if you applied for it you would do it ONLINE thru the thai consulate in the country you decide to apply thru and you would get a PDF file that you print that is the visa itself
you'd use the current passport until you get the new one, then you'd make a copy of the data page of the old passport (the one the visa is tied to) and show that copy, the PDF of the visa and the new passport when you stamp in and out after that

the processing time at the four thai consulates in the US that do thai visas thru the eVisa system is posted as up to 15 business days (so be prepared to sit tight in the US and wait it out) 🙂 Safe travels, good luck in the endeavorReply to

sadly your opinion about the change in how it's done is just that, your opinion, 🙁As I said, it is what it is,
you want a visa, you go to the country whose consulate you want to apply at, you apply online, and you wait it out in that country until you're approved or rejected

it's NOT a sticker visa anymore 😛 (you got yours before what ever consulate you used switched to the eVisa online system Now every thai consulate in the world went to online eVisa web portal 😮
There are no walk up apply consulates. 😕
You go to the country whose consulate you want to apply at, you log in to the eVisa system, upload your required documents, proof you're in that country (visa/entry stamp) pay and wait for the visa to be approved and they send it to you by email

Doubtful the embassies will jump right on this and change it immediately after the rule takes effect,
Recognizing same sex marriages is NOT allow those people to get visas/extensions and those are completely different

look into going to another consulate, HCMC, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, etc, they've been on the eVisa system longer and as a rule have a faster processing time than the ones that just switched overTod *********

I don’t get it. I was there in October and they pasted my visa into my passport the same day I submitted it …
I had to print out tons of documents and give it to them

, Taipei moved to eVisa system from this 1 January 2025. They don't accept walk-in/in person application any more. They state processing time is up to 15 days now.Reply to

I'm telling you that you're going to GO to Taiwan, log into the online eVisa web portal, apply online at the thai consulate in Taipei by uploading the required documents, proof you're in taiwan, pay online and then wait for the visa to be approved and emailed to you
