Hi members!

We are french citizens. Our daughter is on an ED visa. Her first 3 months will expire end of October. We will request one year extension soon. We would like to request a guardian ED visa for my husband. He is currently on his first 30days exemption extension until end of september. We couldn't request his guardian ED visa in our home country because our daughter would have missed the first month of school.

What steps would you recommend for my husband to get his guardian ED visa?

Shall we wait that my daughter got her 1 year extension? If so, what would be the best visa option for him?

He is unable to go back to France, which neighboring country would you recommend?

This group really helped us one time with great advices. Thank you very much in advance!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French family is seeking guidance on how the husband can obtain a guardian ED visa for their daughter in Thailand. They need to navigate the application process following the daughter's upcoming one-year extension and are inquiring about potential delays, necessary steps for application, and options for staying in Thailand without returning to France.

Your husband can apply for the 30 day extension. While you're at the immigrant office ask them for the list of requirements to apply for the guardian of a student visa.

Then once your daughter is on her 1 year extension you can go back and apply for your husband to switch to non-O visa which will be 90 days. Then after a couple of months he can apply for his extension which will not be 1 year, it will be until your daughter's extension ends.

Make sure you get the 500,000 baht in your husband's Thai bank account as soon as possible if it's not there already as many offices require the money to be in the account for a month before applying.

As

stated…I did this whole process this year at my local office. I was able to change from an extension to non-o within Thailand

What office was that?

Mae Sot (and they didn’t want to do it)

However, you will likely run out of time on extensions to apply in country and need to leave the country again anyways as the office will require you to have so many days left in order to apply.

So it might be helpful to just plan to leave the country and do the non-o outside 🤷🏼‍♀️

May be office specific but usually you can’t get a guardian visa issued in Thailand. You would have to apply for the initial Non O visa from a nearby embassy or consulate. Once the 90 days are winding down then you can apply for an extension which will be linked to the child’s allowed to stay date. It’s at the extension point that the 500k needs to be in for one month. 3 months prior for following extensions.
