My ED visa runs out on July 18. If I go to immigration to cancel it and apply for the covid extension then how long can I stay? When should I go to immigration if the ED visa expires July 18? Should the paper from the school say I will finish at the school on July 18 or should they put another day?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your ED visa expires on July 18, you should visit immigration to cancel it on or just before that date and immediately apply for a 60-day COVID-19 extension. The letter from your school can state that you have finished your studies as of July 18. However, ensure to apply as close to the expiration date as possible, since the COVID extension will start on the day of your application.

The letter can say that you will finish your study on specific xx date. Depends on your local immigration office, you may be able to apply for cancellation in advance.

But at most immigration office, they would put covid extension starting on the day of application, not adding to your current stamp, you may want to apply for your covid extension as near to the end 'date' of your stamp as possible.

1. You would take a letter from your school saying you no longer are studying, and cancel your ED visa.

2. ON THE SAME DAY, you would apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and ant to use their special forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they donโ€™t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

You would be able to stay for an extra 60 days.

ED visa is from Phuket. I would be going to Samui to cancel it. Should I go July 18? Or should I go maybe a week before?

@Sean ****
Phuket is not Samui (Suratthani). Why would you go to Samui to cancel an extension of stay from Phuket?

You can only cancel an extension of stay in the immigration office where the extension of stay was issued from. You can find the name of the immigration office where it was issued on the first line of the stamp.

I know another person who cancelled a Phuket ED visa in Samui and got the covid extension in Samui.

I never, ever, heard of anyone cancelling an extension of stay issued at one immigration office in another immigration office, and I never seen proof either. You can try though, but expect a trip to Phuket :(
