I am currently in Vietnam as a tourist, should I apply using the home country (USA) embassy or Vietnam embassy. How would I show proof of the current location? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are currently in Vietnam as a tourist, you should apply for your visa at the embassy or consulate of Vietnam, not the USA. To prove your current location, present your passport entry stamp and any accommodation booking, such as a hotel or Airbnb reservation.

My husband and I (he's American and I'm Canadian) applied from Vietnam via Ha Noi. It was very fast and easy. I think it would be easier to apply and get it done faster in Vietnam.

Proof of current location = airbnb reservation + passport entry stamp for Vietnam.

You have no choice, you apply via the consulate for the country you are currently located in

Apply via the embassy in Vietnam (depending on where you are in Vietnam, there are two locations- Hanoi and HCMC). Proof of current location is your entry stamp in your passport

You apply choosing Vietnam because that is where you are. Show your passports Vietnam entry stamp/visa and hotel booking.
