Is there a reason behind the confidence that there will be an official announcement about visa amnesty in Thailand?

Hope this isn’t too general but I’m seeing a lot of “wait for official announcement” responses. Which of course sounds reasonable.

Is there a reason behind this confidence that there will even be such an “announcement”?

Tl:dr —In short, has there been an official announcement that there will be an official announcement?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community discusses the confidence in an upcoming official announcement about visa amnesty in Thailand due to previous communications from the government and immigration officials. While an official statement indicating intentions for such an announcement has been mentioned, uncertainty remains regarding the specifics and timing.

And the deal was: on this page we share facts, no guesses, no tarot cards readings, no crystal ball messages, no magic 8 bal outcomes, no tea leaves, facts,

And as this turns into maybe this could be but they should mean or if the did try to tell that in another way this page might be full of visa advice, I close it

I got told by an official the request to extend amnesty as been submitted to the government and pending approval. They refused to tell me for how long it would be extended nor guarantee it would be approved, but unlikely it would not be.

In case this means anything: the appointment page was just updated today, with the booking type being renamed originally from "Tourist Visa Extension" *specifically* to "Tourist Visa issued by Thai Embassy or Consulate". A sign that on-arrival/visa-exempt foreigners may be singled out? 👎🏽

The confidence I have is in the fact that so many immigration officials are saying the same thing: “wait for an announcement.” Plus, Thailand usually takes care of people it needs. In the meantime, I’m staying focused on teaching 32 classes every week. And waiting for the announcement.

I guess my comment was deleted because I put YouTube link maybe?

PR Thai government mentioned there will be official announcement about visa amnesty on their video, 3rd July.

"once the situation has been resolved or has returned to normalcy" - we're a looong way from normalcy.

good luck folks and thanks for the input!

Yay, there's hope 🤞

It's also worth mentioning that the original amnesty (due to expire Apr 30th) was only extended on the 21st.... Given the government holidays at the end of this month, hopefully they'll announce something either tomorrow or early next week :)

this is true. Last time, my stamp was in date and valid. This time, it isn’t. This is why my blood pressure is different to last time.

Sure, I get it. The thing is nobody knows what is going to happen. There are a lot of rumors and speculation going around, but in truth I would be surprised if the top dogs at immigration know what they are going to do. Just remember there are hundreds, if not thousands of people in exactly the same situation as you. Thailand always leaves everything to the last minute. Expect the worst, hope for the best. If people end up needing to leave then look into creating some kind of plan, but of course don't buy anything, things change in an instant over here. :)

it’s very difficult to plan migrating myself, my belongings, my Thai registered business AND my four silly dogs.

I’m not a tourist hoping to hang on a bit longer. But I am painfully aware many others are in the same situation. Or worse.

The covid situation changes daily so for sure it can’t be easy for any government to sort this stuff out.

Just looking forward to good news but bracing myself for unfortunate news.

Aaaand breathe.

Thats interesting. No one in the government or Immigration could say the situation is resolved and we have "returned to normalcy"

Yes, as it is written in the first announcement on 7 April 2020
