TLDR : Answer Summary
The amnesty on visas in Thailand has ended as of last year. Currently, individuals can apply for a Covid extension until September 27th, although it remains uncertain if this date will be extended. Recent reports indicate that some individuals have successfully received 30-day extensions.

I had a couple of American friends get 30 days extension at Chonburi (Jomtien) just last week.

that is not amnesty 😕

if they got a 30 day extension then that would have been off the back of a tourist visa or visa exempt entry. Anyone on one of those entries can get those one time only.

Thanks for the info!

No that stopped last year. Up until 27th September you can apply for a Covid extension. Whether they’ll extend that date is unknown.

How to apply for the extension?

Thanks.

You’ll need this stuff. Not all offices have the same requirements so it may be slightly different depending on which of the 70+ offices you use.

A copy of your passport data page (signed),

A passport photo,

Proof of filing a TM30,

A copy of your departure card (TM6) (signed)

A copy of your latest entry stamp (signed)

A copy of any previous Covid extension stamps (signed) (Phuket requires this other offices may not)

In Phuket they require the copies to be in portrait not landscape. This means the top of your passport aligns along the shorter side of the A4. Except for the Data Page where most passports are “sideways”

(Other offices may not be as pedantic)

A filled out TM7 (application form for extensions) - the form doesn’t have a space for your email or phone number but just write it on the back (page 2).

A filled out STM2 (acknowledgement that you understand the rules for overstaying)

A filled out “I don’t want to leave because of Covid form” - I have no idea if it has an official name or number.

And 1,900 baht.

The forms are available at your local office. Most have places on site or nearby that can do the copies and photos.

Many offices will give you a “under consideration” stamp requiring you to return somewhere from 5-14 days later where they will stamp for the remaining 60 days. If they do you MUST use the same office to “close out” that stamp. For example you cannot get a “under consideration” stamp from Bangkok and close that out in Chiang Mai 15 days later.

at your local immigration office. Each has different requirements. I’ll post what the Phuket office requires so you’ll get an idea.

And I thought the 15 days toleration is automatically 5555

Thanks for that information 👍

You mistake with visa exemption that was 30 days and got an additional 15 days, so you have 45 days allowed stay directly upon arrival.

Right.....thats what I need 👍

you need to arrive before

to get 45 days

The current cut-off date only. Likely to be extended beyond that. Same as the COVID extensions have been extended again and again - and likely will be a good while longer.

I wouldn't depend on it (I wish I could) but with the plans progressing to reopen the country from 1st October, almost regardless of covid, it could well be the end of roll over covid extensions and 45 days VOA

@Lyndon ***********
Could be. But unlikely. The extra 15 days were to compensate for quarantine / sandbox requirement. And this kind of quarantine will not stop any time soon. And as for the covid extensions: They are mostly an alternative to currently impossible border runs. Do they will most likely be around until borders runs (leaving and re-entering Thailand without any quarantine) will be possible again. So also a long time ahead, still. But you are right: This isn’t 100% certain. Then again, nothing is in Thailand.

you thought wrong 😉

there is no toleration. If you overstay your entry stamp the fine is 500 baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. However if you’re caught on overstay (not at the airport trying to leave) you could face a whole heap of problems.
