Is the DTV Visa in Thailand valid beyond the course duration, and can common-law partners be dependents on this visa?

Hi! If I apply for the dtv for a course/activity like muay thai or cooking course, is the visa still valid even beyond the course duration or will I be required to leave Thailand?

Also, if you are legally common law in another country, are you able to bring your dependant with you on the DTV Visa, or will you need to be legally married in order for your dependants to accompany you?

Hope someone can help clarify these items!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand is valid for five years regardless of the duration of your course, such as a muay thai or cooking class. However, common law partnerships are not recognized in Thailand; you will need to be legally married to bring your dependent with you on the visa. It’s advisable to apply for the DTV now, as visa requirements may become stricter in the future.

Just get your partner to get their own DTV. So easy to get. 10,000 baht for FIVE YEARS. It's a bargain!

Sorry common law is not recognized.

Once obtained it is a 5 year visa regardless if you don't even attend whatever reason you used, cooking, may thai etc.

If you are going to apply do it now.

I would expect the requirements to become more stringent in the near future.

You 100% need a marriage certificate. Common law doesn’t exist in Thailand

Not my case (I'm not married) but I was just thinking, now that you mention common law. As homosexual marriage is legal in many countries, including my "home" (I write like that because I don't really live there) country, I wonder if legally married same-sex spouses also count as dependants for the DTV. Does anybody know?

It's a 5 years visa, regardless of how you qualify.

You must be legally married.
