TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion compares the advantages of a marriage visa against a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa). It highlights that the DTV does not require marriage, making it easier for those who prefer not to marry. The marriage visa, while requiring proof of a Thai bank account and monthly income, offers advantages such as not needing to leave the country every six months for renewal. The conversation also touches on issues related to visa renewal and potential regulations for those in specific training programs.

While marriage visa renewal is more difficult, you don’t have to leave the country every 6 months, you only need 400,000 in a Thai bank account, but you do need proof of 40,000k baht of income coming in monthly.

I think for those coming in on cooking, medical or Muay Thai classes, they’ll probably start requiring you prove you are still engaged in those activities when you reenter the country on the visa. So that’s a cost you’ll likely have to consider down the line, in addition to travel expenses for leaving the country.

Not knowing how it will play out is also something to consider.

I find it hard to believe that two weeks of cooking classes will carry someone over for 5 years. Requiring fresh courses, doctor’s appointments, etc. is a guaranteed way to make money for Thai businesses.

I find it hard to believe they won’t do that but we’ll see.

Since the DTV doesn’t require marriage it’s a clear winner. 😆
