Hi gang,

Is this a viable border crossing for 90day stamps? Google maps directed me this way and it says there is a crossing but I don't recall ever seeing anyone talk about it. It's convenient for me as the fam live in Phayao.

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Ban Huak border crossing is not currently a viable option for obtaining a 90-day visa stamp, as it is not classified as an international border crossing and only local residents are permitted to cross. Alternatives like the Chiang Khong border crossing may be more suitable for expats seeking to renew or obtain their visas.

As the answer is there, I wish the OP safe travels.

The Huak crossing is not full international on the Laos side yet. So it is not possible.

Found this on a travel forum from May this year;

"Quick answers to your questions Ban Huak, Phu Sang is still not international and cannot enter or exit, Chiang Khong should not be a problem crossing in or out is no issue"

Wow blast from the past..I remember using a raft to do the crossing at Chiang khong 20 odd years ago. Easier days..

From what I can see googling around in thai, at this time ONLY local residents are currently allowed to travel across the border to Laos.

Remember there are a LOT of border crossings in thialand and not everyone will let foreigners bounce out and back in at them. Some are just for thais and locals from the neighboring country to use.

This one I do not know about

But it's a boring ride from here to Mae sai, through Chiang Rai and boring industrial roads. Efficient, but not really much fun.

if no-one has the answer I'll check it out myself next time I visit fam and I'm on my bike. Google says only 1h44 from Phayao which would be great for me.
