My work Permit and Visa expire on the 31st December.

I plan to return to England in the first week of January. Would a few days 'Overstay' be a problem when I leave? I'm willing to pay the fine.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus is that it is not advisable to overstay your visa in Thailand, even for a few days, as it can lead to penalties, including potential blacklisting. Although fines can be paid, it is recommended to avoid overstaying altogether and consider options such as a border run or obtaining a last-minute extension to stay legal until departure.

Good Luck and Never Overstay.

Remember to do as Robert Lagas said:

Its very important...

"Well then you have to visit the Ministry of Labor to cancel your Work Permit and you have to visit the Immigration Office to cancel you Extension of Stay on the last day of working.

Depending on which date this last date is you have to make arrangements to stay legal inside Thailand till the day you wish to fly out.

If that is in less then 7 days you may apply for a new Extension of Stay, which will be not approved and you get 7 days to leave the country.

It it is more than 7 days, a border run could be an option."

Do a border run just after Christmas? That’s what I’d do. Get a fresh 30 days.

Yes! Never overstay. If you are caught, you will be blacklisted, and it's not worth it. I believe you can get a 7 day extension of stay denied stamp at most immigration offices.

As long as you not get arrested during the overstay, you just pay the fine. Question next to this is are you in Thailand on the initial 90 days of the visa or did you already visit Immigration office and got the Extension of Stay based on working inside Thailand?
