Hi there, this has probably been answered loads of times but I am getting a little confused.

I was under the impression (from answers to questions here and other places) that medical insurance is not required to apply for the Non-o visa from the UK, I’m looking at the London Thai Embassy website and it is saying that it is a requirement.

It’s not an issue if it is, if anyone has any recommendations for cheap insurance that will get us the visa, as we were planning on self insuring whilst there or looking around for best policy once we have settled.

Also, one last thing, what do I use as confirmation of residency in the uk?

Thank you all in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around the confusion regarding medical insurance requirements for the NON-O visa application by a UK citizen. The user references the Thai Embassy's website, which suggests that medical insurance is necessary, but a comment clarifies that insurance is not required for the NON-O visa, only for the NON-OA visa. The user is also seeking recommendations for affordable insurance and information on how to confirm UK residency.

This is an old page not updated since Covid. There is no insurance requirement for non-O, it's only the non-OA that has a requirement.

thanks Brandon. It was from the London embassy website, I couldn’t understand it, I’ll have to do some more digging.

Ok, I have now found the right link. For proof of address, could a mortgage statement work (it says rental agreement, but we don’t rent)? All the utility bills are in my name, but mortgage is in joint names, my husband also has his own bank account.

Also, we’ve just transferred £10k each to our own individual bank accounts in the UK (looking at that old info) but looks like we might need the equivalent of ฿800k over here (or £1500 p/m) I knew that was the case for us getting the visa extended in Thailand) . Am I reading that correctly? It’s not an issue of so.

as British citizens, you cannot use the 12-months income financial statement for the 1-year extension in Thailand. You need a minimum of 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account in the first year. And that's EACH of you. If one of you wants to apply for the "trailing spouse Non-Imm-O visa" which has no financial requirements, then the London embassy probably will require the husband to be on a 1-year Non-Imm-O/A visa. You will have to ask them via email

Do UK drivers licenses have an address? That usually works.
