Could a british expat help with this, preferably someone that's gone through the process in recent years, cos us old schoolers had it very different 20yrs ago when u just popped in to your local consulate.

The online E visa is stating I need 2 types of insurance, which do I actually need and where is best to go for best rate?

The police criminal record clearance, is the Police Certificate obtained from ACRO for £65 what they actually want?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British expat seeks recent experiences regarding the application process for a Non-OA visa, specifically about required insurance types and where to find the best rates. The inquiry also includes questions about the ACRO Police Certificate as part of the visa requirements. Responses suggest that there are two types of insurance needed, with one expat sharing their successful experience obtaining insurance from a Thai-approved company. Another comment recommends considering a non-O visa as it might have fewer requirements.

I just received OA approval. The insurance requirement is an 'or' situation. For me I purchased one year medical insurance from a Thai approved company starting on the day I arrive in Thailand. The entire year coverage is purchased up front. The process was very easy, the Thai Embassy website provided a list of eligible companies and once purchased I received all required documentation within one day via email. I made copies of the documentation including the membership card and brought to thailand. This was important because immigration asked for proof of coverage at entry point entering Thailand. My copied documentation was accepted and I was stamped for the initial year. Hope this helps..

Is there a reason you're applying for the non-OA visa? Normally people want the non-O visa which doesn't have any of these requirements. There are certainly circumstances that can make the OA visa better for some people, but the non-O is what 99% of people actually want.

right, that's why most people go for the non-O. Very easy to get

lucky I asked 🤣, i just don't get why there's a different category covering the same group of people, one asking for your right arm and the other a free pass

with the non-O you'll need to have money in a Thai bank account to get the 1-year extension. This money is your "security" if anything happens, so Thailand has assurance you can take care of yourself.

With a non-OA you can get almost 2 years in Thailand without ever having to go to immigration or have any money in a Thai bank account. So the required insurance and everything is to replace the large Thai bank deposit to show if anything happens you can take care of yourself without becoming Thailand's problem.
