Is it true that Immigration in Penang requires a plane ticket to your home country instead of just one out of Thailand?

Truth or rumour? On another page people have been saying that Immigration in Penang is requiring a plane ticket to your home country instead of just out of Thailand. This seems more than ridiculous but wanting to hear the latest.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There are recent claims that Immigration in Penang is demanding proof of a return flight to one's home country, rather than just an outbound ticket from Thailand. While some users find this requirement excessive, others confirm its accuracy, stating it reflects stricter visa issuance policies. There are reports of limited daily visa approvals, necessitating full compliance with entry criteria.

They are limiting the number of Visa’s issued daily. Unless you meet every criteria & have supplementary evidence if required you’ll be ‘red stamped’ & told to go elsewhere. Vientiane is friendly.

a well respected & known agent in Penang, has conveyed this information to my brother in the last 3 months, 200 SETV’s via agents (collectively) issued per day. Hence the message from Jim recently reiterating the need for everyone to have documentation in order & not have extensive SETV history without further scrutiny being initiated. The agents don’t want all their clients being rejected.

I don't know that I'd go so far as to say they are limiting the number of visas issued daily.

I think there is a gradual tightening up of the visa rules (which isn't a bad thing) and more and more consulates are requiring proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of a hotel booking to issue tourist visas.

AFAIK: they are only taking a hard stance in Penang on people who have multiple back-2-back tourist visas in their passport.

Great! Thanks ... that makes more sense!

, It seems they are only asking for proof of onward travel to your home country if you have a history of back to back visas to thailand in your passport. Most people who don't live here on tourist visas are okay.

I was finding out for someone on another page. I usually get mine in Australia but good to know not to go to Penang! Having just read the thread though, it seems only some people are being asked for the ticket home!
