I am retiring in June & want to apply for DTV for soft skills. I don’t have an exact date to arrive in Thailand. Is it too early to apply for the DTV? TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering applying for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) for soft skills ahead of their retirement in June but lacks a specific arrival date in Thailand. Comments indicate that applying early is advisable, as DTV grants a 5-year term, and having a visa beforehand allows for better travel planning. Some commenters suggest alternatives, such as applying for a Non-O visa for better access to a Thai bank account necessary for long-term residency, emphasizing the importance of choosing the right visa based on the user's long-term plans.

So much easier to get a visa that serves your purpose. Get one of the available retirement visas

Yeah. And? So how do you know he's over 50? I know people that have retired in their 40's, and one in his 30's.

When you are able to retire before you are 50, then Elite visa will be the better choice.

DTV means you still have to work or do soft power activity.

I know there are people here that think that the visa can be used without any obligation after thier soft power training ends, but allthough it is not checked at entry of the country, immigration states it still is a visa requirement.

That means at any moment they think it is necessary they can start checking.

As retiree, not working non-o-retirrement and if not 50 elite are much better choices.

If you are planning on retiring here then there is a better alternative than just getting the DTV. It will be much better in your case after you retire, to enter on a type O 90 day visa, specifically for one purpose, and that is getting a Thai bank account. You can not currently get a Thai bank account on a DTV. This is something to think about for long term. After you've been on the type O extension for one year, then you change to the DTV, and you have, and keep, your Thai bank account. It is a real hassle living here long term without a Thai bank account, and you can not get one on a DTV.

DTV is for 5 years, if you have all the dox then apply now give dates of travel in next 1-3 months and get it approved, why wait till the end and find out? couple of months from 5 years wont kill you and if you have visa in advance you can still travel in June or whenever, you can plan everything in advance and not in a rush......

If you use the soft power, like study at a school, train in a gym, or visit a hospital, it should be a arrival date before the start date of your soft power arrangements.
