TLDR : Answer Summary
The community generally recommends applying for the DTV visa around 2-3 months before your planned move to Thailand in July. Specifically, it's suggested to start the application process in May, as it allows time for paperwork and processing. Be aware that the processing time may vary depending on your nationality and the specific embassy or consulate you apply to.

When reading the websites of Thai Embassies, you will experience they generally recommend not to apply more than 3 month before entering Thailand, and doubg so can end in rejection.

You will also learn how long the normal visa processing time is for the Embassy you want to apply at.

Now is too early... When you should apply depends on your nationality (what passport you hold) AND where you plan to apply. Some nationalities have restrictions that add to the processing time and each embassy/consulate have their own estimated time to process visas.

With a US passport I assume... If I were you I would apply about 2 month ahead. I've read various reports, for instance some people waiting over a month in LA, while others have gotten approved pretty quickly...

You should read the information and check the processing time for the embassy/consulate that holds jurisdiction for your part of the country (Washington, New York, Chicago or Los Angeles).

I would say around May if July is your fixed date. Plenty of time to start getting paperwork in order. Where are you planning to apply? Some embassies can take a month to approve others within 5 business days.

ok sounds good! I’m excited and I just want my approval lol Just to confirm the $15,000 needs to be in you account for 3 consecutive months prior to applying, correct?

Depending on Embassy, so read thir website.

Bank the money gradually as soon as possibel, to avoid problems, and so it isn't obvious that the money are there for the sole purpose to apply for DTV, but follow a normal moneyflow.

And don't stop depositing excactly when reaching the 500.000 Baht target.

Depends on the embassy for the 3 months of banked 500k. Laos requires that, majority of embassies do not. i do not think that is a requirement anywhere in the states. I applied in Taipei, it was not there. Final balance of 500k and 6 months of statements should be enough. Yes, i get the excitement and the wait for approval . You will be fine.

OK let me check into the one in LA. I’m just nervous about having the $15,000 in there three months prior.

Yes, check but I think 3 months banked not needed. Someone recently approved in LA noted they had the 500k for a month or so.

OK Depending on the location it can take 10-20 business days. You can apply earlier also if you wanted. I got my DTV last month but will move later this year. I applied before a visit in Dec.

The DTV Visa is activated upon acceptance by the consulate you apply through. Given the period of time for processing being on average 6 to 8 days I would be doing the application about 2-3 weeks prior to your requirement for it as to not waste a month or two of the Visa period.

Six weeks prior.
