Is it still safe to apply for a DTV visa from countries like Vietnam and Cambodia?

Hey. I’m seeing a lot of people saying they are not getting there DTV granted and that Thai authorities are being a lot stricter etc.

Has anyone had any success stories recently in the last couple of weeks?

Is it still safe to apply from bordering countries like Vietnam, Cambodia etc?

I am planning to visit Vietnam very soon and apply. I have all the required documents but just wondering is there anything to look out for? I have been on tourist visa in Thailand since last June and have done some border runs, could that have any negative impact? Would going through an agent help at all?

My company is situated in Europe but is now fully remote.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the challenges expats face when applying for the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand, particularly from neighboring countries like Vietnam and Cambodia. Users express concerns about stricter visa regulations and share insights on the advantages of applying from one's home country versus a neighboring country. Many suggest that applying from the home country might lead to a higher success rate due to scrutiny on applications from other countries. Additionally, there is a focus on potential negative impacts of frequent border runs on visa applications.

Much better to apply in your homecountry, where the Embassy staff is familiar to the kind of documents, that should get you the DTV.

and you can save big bucks on traveling to a 3 country and have to stay there at a hotel for the duration of the visa proces, instead you can wait “for free” in the comfort of your home for the visa to be approved.

Everyone seems to be desperate to finally to get the visa and live there…Thailand is just another SEA country, not the paradise.

I agree. I actually think the people are less friendly and the prices are higher than in Cambodia and Vietnam.

Those having problems are those trying soft power methods everyone else uses, like the same Muay Thai gym, or can't provide recent income tax filings.

IMO, I think it is better to apply from your passport country. It is easy to flag from the DTV paper that you have applied from a different country and also if it is a soft power DTV. Seems like those 2 categories are the most being abused.

I wonder how you managed to get tourist visa for 10 months, normally application for tourist visa will not be granted back to back.

Now you want to do a visa run again, and this time get a DTV?

The officer processing your visa application might be alerted by this misuse, but when you fully comply with all requirements, you might be approved.

I think applying from your home country will have a better success rate.

You’re supposed to apply from your home country or where you have a residence permit. It’s the sea countries that are getting scrutinized for the very reason you are posting.

most embassies especially European ones want you to apply from your passport country. It’s not my favorite thing but then if you don’t some will after a certain time like 6 months or a year

this is so annoying - and certainly from the Digital Nomad visa side, yet another example of how these things are designed without any references to how they will he used

not my rules when I wanted it live in France I had to go to Germany to become a European resident just to use the French embassy in Germany bc the one in the USA would have taken a lifetime if ever to process the visa.
