Can I do a visa run to Laos while on a COVID extension and transitioning to a work visa in Thailand?

Hi Everyone!

I am seeking advice on doing visa runs to any nearby country outside of Thailand. I am currently on a covid extension with my previous visa being an ED one. I recently got a job and they are willing to provide everything in order to get my visa changed to a working one. I have some uncertainty if I can still extend my covid extension for another two month term since the borders have opened up and fear that I might be told to go back to my home country.

If that is to happen, is doing a visa run to the nearest country like Laos possible in order to change my visa?

And if anyone knows whether or not immigration offices are still doing covid extensions even if the borders have opened; I would appreciate your insight.

Thanks in advance for your responses. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat on a COVID extension in Thailand is seeking guidance on whether they can conduct a visa run to Laos while transitioning to a work visa (Non-B). They are unsure if they can extend their COVID visa due to the opening of borders. Responses indicate that the COVID extension is valid until November 26, and while it's advised not to work without a proper Non-B visa and work permit, it might be possible to transition to the Non-B without leaving Thailand. However, concerns are raised about the current closure of land borders and the challenges of visa renewals at Thai embassies outside Thailand.

You might want to check with legal professional regarding the COVId extension. Last time I check lawyer told me that COVID extension is same as no visa but have some permission to stay in Thailand. Once you exit from Thailand (visa run) you might need to apply for a regular visa (of any type). Therefore even you CAN find a way to Laos or Cambodia, Thai embassy might not โ€œrenewโ€ your ED visa

No countries open nearby. Keep an eye on Langkawi, Malaysia and Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Those are on the radar for opening up to int'l arrivals this winter. Not sure if they will allow visitors from Thailand...so don't bet on these...just keep them in mind just in case. Also, neither of those places have a Thai consulate. Easy visa runs are a thing of the past now. :(

Land borders are still closed. Last day to get Covid extension is November 26th. That will take you through to January 25th (ish). In that time you can ask your employer to speak to the immigration office in their area to see if you can change to Non B in country or to extension based on Employment. Worst they can do is say no. Other than that, I suggest you follow the advice already given from your posts in June

So 2 things, 1st is yes you can get the covid extension as long as it's available which right now is Nov 26th.

2nd, Don't work unless you have your Non-B and work permit. You cannot work on the covid extension and without a work permit.

You can transition to a Non-B in country without leaving, I've seen people do it. Why haven't you applied for the Non-B yet?

I have been told numerous times that I cannot change from ED to Non-B visa. I have tried to find a way to do it for a year and a bit now but still nothing. The most common response I get is to extend the covid extension for now.

Thank you for your advice ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
