Hello there,

My Tourist Visa expires on December 23rd. Since the situation in my home country gets pretty bad I want to apply for a 60 day Covid Extension. Can I do this tomorrow morning or is it to early to get an extension to 23rd of february?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about applying for a 60-day Covid Extension before their Tourist Visa expires on December 23rd. In the comments, it is suggested that the user should first utilize the 30-day extension available for Tourist Visas, as most immigration offices require this step before applying for a Covid extension. Additionally, it is pointed out that applying early could result in losing some days from the original stamp, as the Covid extension typically starts from the application date.

Have you done your 30 days extension first as normally you would have to do that first before covid extension

Have you used the 30 day extension you are eligible for on a tourist visa? Most immigration offices will require you to get this first.

Second consideration is that in most offices your Covid extension will start the day you apply, and you will lose any days you had left on your original stamp. So if your Visa expires on December 23rd and you apply today, you may lose a couple weeks of time you'd have been able to benefit from if you waited until closer to the end.

in most offices. Have you been round them all like? Phuket immigration stamp you from the day your visa expires, not from when you go.

almost all offices will add an extension onto the end if it's the same. But if you change then it starts the day you apply. So the first Covid extension starts the day you apply in most offices, as I said. Then if you get another Covid extension, it adds to the end.

But some offices are so sick of Covid extensions they aren't even doing that and doing EVERY Covid extension from the day of application.

Also this post is from like 8 months ago. Why are you commenting on it?

I had multiple Covid extensions here in Chiang Mai and they all started on the day I submitted my request.

because it's highly likely things change in 8 months during Covid

I have used the 30 days already. I just would need to plan a bit in advance regarding housing & flights...

I read here that the current stamp-date is extended, but it makes not so much sense!?

if you change the reason for your extension, it usually starts the day you apply.

Since you would be changing from tourist to Covid, it will likely start when you apply and you will lose any extra days you had.

But if you applied for another Covid extension, that would get added to the end of your existing Covid extension.

This is how it works with pretty much every extension, if you switch types, it starts from the day of application.
