Applying for a Thai visa from Japan is acceptable, but it requires thorough preparation. Many find the process challenging, particularly at the Thai Embassy in Tokyo, which is noted for its strictness. Applicants often face rigorous interviews, and it's common for some to receive only a month-long METV when applying from Japan. To increase chances of approval, especially for a DTV visa, it's crucial to demonstrate a long-term intention to use that visa type instead of just opting for a METV.
It is ok to apply from Japan but you need to research in detail what they want not just what it says on the website. It is among the top most difficult embassies to gain DTV approval. Focos on showing long term use of the DTV to avoid getting an METV.

I got mine in Japan, but it was quite arduous, the interview at the Thai Embassy in Tokyo was quite intense

So many reports of people only getting a month METV that applied from Japan. You need to actually do research and use the search feature of this group.

Anonymous participant 498 well, just use the lens function to do the research on this page. There are dozens of folks who claimed how problematic those embassies are.
