The last time at immigration just a month ago, the officer told me that in the THIM I need to leave the departure date blank and check the 2nd option of long term visa the next time. That was my experience.

No, I am on a retirement visa. According to AI, in your case of the DTV visa it guided me to this YouTube channel which says to select you will extend your visa while in Thailand. You can also check AI yourself.It also says you can leave it blank as it is optional.
