To those of you willing to post publicly: Has anyone had problems leaving Thailand multiple times under the DTV? Have you faced a higher level of scrutiny at immigration with successive reentries?

Has anyone who previously opened their bank account with a work permit encountered any scrutiny?

For whatever reason, every story drumming up anxiety over these issues have been posted anonymously.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Several expats report no issues with entering and exiting Thailand multiple times under the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), stating that immigration officers have not raised concerns. Many have traveled frequently without facing scrutiny, including individuals with varied backgrounds such as those employed in remote jobs or living in Thailand. There are some discussions about banking issues related to work permits and how banks track visa changes, with many believing that as long as the account details are updated when necessary, there should be no complications. Overall, the consensus is that the DTV allows for frequent travel without significant immigration hurdles.

As for entry, came and went multiple times, zero issues.

As for bank account I opened mine under DTV (medical), with reason to pay medical bills. Have had no issues with my Bangkok Bank account.

Dtv js a tourist visa so its essentially made to travel in and out as much you please. I would even say not going out and extending in country bring you more issues

I live here but I’m a flight crew for US airline . I’m in and out every month and sometimes multiple times a month if I go to visit other SE Asian countries . Entered though DMK and BKK multiple times and never had a question. I also don’t identify I’m crew.

The majority say Employment Prohibited but some embassies differentiate the type of the DTV in the remarks like this one.

That’s really interesting. The remark on my DTV, written in Thai, merely notes that my passport will expire before my visa expires. I’m curious why that course of study was written there?

For the bank account ontqoned on a B with WP the bank will only know of a change of visa if they ask you to update details or you go in yourself to change an address for example. How elsexwill they know?

I had to go in for a new bank book. Whether they’ll then close my bank account, which has been open for 9 years, I can only guess.

As of now, I’ve only heard of people who used agents or otherwise got accounts opened on tourist visas fall under increased scrutiny.

If anything changes on that end for me, I’ll let you know.

I went in to change address at Krungsri and they updated my visa info too - that was opened on a B and WP. There were 5000 salaries from our company going into the branch it was opened. My Bangkok Bank was opened by an agent in Pattaya at a branch thst is under scrutiny. It seems to be working fine.

Normal activity such as salary payments are fine even if the account opened via an agent. Unaccounted for/suspicious deposits with an agent opened account or opened yourself are the ones most likely to be closed.

My Bamgkok Bank account is only used for my beer money and day to day cash needs. Just transfer money over for ATM needs when required. That account saved me in London recently at Heathrow as my UK account woukd not work on London Transport but Thai account did.

I really appreciate all of that. I had read the previous anonymous post and it worried me a bit. But I also think so much context is missing, just like with the bank accounts.

Visa history, whether you got your DTV in your home country, whether you use an agent, how you’re dressed at immigration — these are all important details.

how will airport immigration know if you used an agent? You’re thinking too much

I got mine in Cambodia but am American. I wear t-shirt and shorts when traveling (for comfort). Didn't use an agent and previously had a work visa (prior to 2019) and have entered Thailand 10+ times a year on visa exempt, with most stays being 7 to 14 days (was living in Cambodia)\. Still had no issues with DTV.

That’s also good to hear. And there’s nothing wrong with traveling in comfort. I just have an inkling there are some folks here posting anonymously for a reason.

It’s not just clothes. The way you present matters.

I thin some of these dudes, with a combination of visa history and personal presentation/behavior, rub immigration officers the wrong way.

Or they’re simply omitting other context.

I’m certainly happy to hear your experience has been smooth.

or jaded people who paid a lot of LTR visas and trying to stress DTV holders, by making stuff up. Also think nationality matters a lot

I’ve also noticed a lot of unnecessary anger.

For example, why are they so obsessed with the length of courses people are taking? The Thai government never made any specific requirement in that regard — why do they care so much?

There really is this odd gatekeeper syndrome where people, many who don’t have a strong grasp of Thai language, history or culture, want to pull up the drawbridge and keep others out.

I cannot imagine spending my time trolling a facebook page for a visa I don’t even have.

Lots of folks clearly need a hug!

Most of those angry people have a DTV via workation and think it's superior for some reason. So they want all the people who applied via soft power to be checked that they're still attending the course.

There is a tendency for people to do this. Pretty sad, honestly.

Tourist numbers are down. DTV, without an agent, is a pretty good way for the government to actually vet people’s finances.

I chose soft power because my passive income situation would have made it a real headache to apply for the visa.

But who cares? I met every requirement provided by the Thai government. Why do these people want to create additional requirements, other than some odd sense that others don’t deserve access to their “dream”?

I think it is two-fold. There are those who have been here a long time and had it harder to get visas, who now are disgruntle, and then there are, as you said, DTV holders who I don’t think they see themselves superior, but worried that the government will cancel the DTV.

Exactly! I've been attacked by many because I switched from retirement extension to DTV, as many others have done. Apparently it's ok to be a "Tik-Tok content creator" but the DTV is "not meant for retirees"! You have to ROFL

He's NEVER had a problem at all comin' back in on his DTV and I mean he's got PAGES of 180 day entry stamps
