Is Canada equally difficult for a poor Thai woman to get a visa as USA?

Edit: lots of asinine comments. Will be blocking a bunch of wastes of skin. For about 3/4 of the rest of you... Maybe try giving people the benefit of the doubt from time to time. You will find life smoother.

Got an invite to go on some guided outback adventures, but not interested if I can't take my wife. Mostly an idle rumination, but always nice to trick the roaches into the light so they can be blocked.
Answer summary
The discussion highlights the challenges faced by poor Thai women when applying for visas to Canada and the USA. While common perceptions suggest both countries have stringent visa requirements, several comments indicate that Canada's processes may be slightly less harsh than those of the USA. Factors influencing visa approval include demonstrating strong ties to Thailand, financial stability, and the overall intent to return. Many commenters emphasize that having family or property in Thailand significantly enhances visa chances, and obtaining a visa through a partner or sponsor can also improve odds. However, obtaining a tourist visa remains difficult for many, particularly for those from less privileged backgrounds.

Contact the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok to ask for their requirements. No one on this page can provide an accurate answer as while may be able to meet visa requirements , approval is based on the visa officer decision.

Cockroaches are pretty smart. Least likely to go extinct….getting a visa for my thai gf was difficult…..need to be compelling reasons to return as the USA thinks everyone wants to live there …false…and not just be a tourist. Get a visa agency to assist. Maybe jump the loopholes easier.

For the UK, I had no issue getting a visitor visa for my wife. Yet, on paper at least, she had extremely difficult immigration circumstances, to an extent that there was lots of so called "advice" about not bothering. It turned out the big issue was not an issue.

👉 Canada is difficult, but the USA is usually harder.

🇺🇸 USA – Very strict

Strong focus on financial stability

High suspicion of overstaying

If you’re poor, single, or don’t have strong ties to Thailand → high chance of denial

🇨🇦 Canada – Still strict, but slightly more reasonable

Looks more at overall situation, not just money

If you can show:

clear purpose (visit, study, family)

proof you’ll return to Thailand

→ you may have better chances than the USA

☘️ Canada is not easy, but it’s not as unforgiving as the USA, especially for applicants from poorer backgrounds.

"They let everyone into Canada!"

"Of course, millions of Indians come to Canada every year!"

These are oversimplifications and not really related to visit visas. Yes, Canada brings in far too many foreign workers and students, but it's actually very difficult for a regular Thai woman to get a visit visa, even if they just want to go to Canada for 2 weeks. You must prove that you have: (1) a permanent job in Thailand, and (2) assets/property in Thailand (i.e., close ties / reasons to come back to Thailand). The Canadian Embassy is very strict about the possibility of a Thai person "visiting" Canada and then staying.

It's very difficult in Australia too, had to get a holiday visa first with a really strong case of why my partner has a strong reason to want to return home. Once in the country, it was much easier for Permanent Residency visa, maybe it's the same approach to use in Canada...

A TRV to Canada costs roughly 600 dollars which is roughly 13,609 baht then add on price of plane tickets and hotel rooms, honestly in my opinion no it wouldn’t be feasible for a poor Thai person to visit Canada or the USA, but would it be like a once in a lifetime trip for them yes

Most people posting here have no idea what they are talking about...they are ignorant or racists. A poor Thai without specific skills which are in demand has no chance of immigration to another country. Even getting a tourist visa is difficult. Just as Ai. Do not rely on social media for important information like this...it brings out the unhinged.

Wayne Edwards I'm Canadian, so not sure how visiting works. Is it that hard for a regular Thai person to visit as a visitor? Is it more of a 1 way vs 2 way ticket issue?
Mark *********
Mark *********
SunnyFlamingo559 A "visitor's visa" is virtually impossible to get for poor Thai people without being able to prove they will go back to Thailand. So they need to go back for children, career, assets etc. The way I read it is that Canada doesn't want to risk poor people coming to Canada and then not leaving. If they are married to a responsible Canadian that increases their chances dramatically. A girlfriend though doesn't meet this hurdle.

Yes , its very hard and typically the consulate in Thailand will not approve it without very strong ties to Thailand ie; an above avg career , they own a home , they have sufficient funds in their bank and had it for some time and you cannot deposit it into their account .

I went through it with my wife and we were denied a travel visa then we ended up getting married which was in the plans anyway and after marriage we used a visa agent and I was successful in bringing her to Canada 🇨🇦 but it took 2.5 years and lots of frustrations

Steven Jones You are a delusional fool. Blue states keep Red states running, without Blue states your states collapse. and as far as Democrats losing you obviously didn't see the results of the last election in Minnesota where the Republican incumbent received a huge whopping 4% of the state's vote, while his Democrat challenger received 96% of the vote. There is a bigly reason Trump and his Klan want to suppress the November elections or nationalize and suppress them, they know they are going to lose ferociously. The latest report is the Republicans will lose 23 seats in the House and likely more in the Senate. Face it, Republicans in Congress have absolutely abdicated their rights and responsibilities, even the NRA is standing against the party that was ok with federal agents taking a licensed gun away from a licensed gun owner in an open carry state, and then beating him and shooting him 10 times. In Europe they throw Pedophiles in Prison, in the US, people like you defend pedophiles and rapists, with all of your souls, all of which are going to Hell!
