How Long Does It Take to Get a Thai Visa from the Embassy in Hanoi?

I am currently in Thailand. I am Canadian, thus Visa exempt for airport entries for periods of 30 days or less. I know that I can go and request a 30 days extension for 1900 Baht, but since I already bounced in & out several times since october, the immigration officer advised that for next time, I should have a 3 months official visa. I am planning a trip to Hanoi, Vietnam. My question is: How long should I expect the process to take in Hanoi once I drop my passport and the visa form at the Thai embassy?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a Thai visa at the embassy in Hanoi typically involves dropping off your passport and visa form in the morning on day one and then picking it up the next working day in the afternoon. However, it is essential to meet the visa requirements and make sure you haven't overstayed your previous entries in Thailand, as this could impact your chances of approval for a new tourist visa.

Be sure to read the requirements for the Tourist Visa for Hanoi.

Meet them and you may have your visa.

I say MAY as you have already been in Thailand for 5+ months if I have counted your post correctly.

Hanoi may grant you the Tourist visa or may say you have been in Thailand already too long as a tourist.

And if you do get your new visa, if you plan on staying in Thailand longer you will need another plan. Back to back visas are getting very difficult to obtain...especially the third one from recent reports of Hanoi.

AND CHECK WITH YOUR AIRLINE TO CONFIRM THEY ARE STILL FLYING TO HANOI...

Good luck.

Hanoi is a turn in your passport and application one morning and pick up your passport the next afternoon.

I think what the officer was telling you was to BUY a tourist visa which is valid for 3 months <- meaning you have 3 months to ENTER thailand once you get that visa and when you do enter you'll be stamped in for 60 days like everyone on a tourist visa.

READ the requirements for the tourist visa from that consulate, they require proof of funds, onward travel and lodging I believe.

You drop your passport on day 1 in the morning and pick it up the next working day in the afternoon. Without any documentation why you should be entitled for a Non Immigrant Visa the chance to get one will be zero.

The requirements set to apply for a visa, only dropping a passport will be not enough. And as there is a long list of visa's , I would say, take a look for yourself:

There is nothing stopping you from getting the 30 day extension on the 30 day visa exempt entry you have. No matter what the person at passport control told you when you stamp in you'll be fine getting that 30 day extension at the immigration office for 1900baht
