Is it easy to extend a tourist visa in Thailand if it's my first entry this year?

Hello everyone. I intend to extend my tourist visa at immigration for 30 days. This is my first entry into Thailand this year. Am I likely to encounter any problems? Because I understand that the authorities in Thailand are now very strict. I ask because I saw a post by a tourist who was not approved for some reason, even though this is his first entry this year.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about extending a tourist visa for an additional 30 days in Thailand, concerned about possible issues due to tightened immigration regulations. Responses from the community indicate that extensions are typically granted without problems for first-time entries, provided certain conditions are met, like proper TM30 registration from their accommodation. Immigration offices may vary in their requirements, and it's advised to apply earlier for the extension and ensure necessary documentation is available. A fee of ฿1,900 is noted for the extension.

If you do in Bangkok do not need TM 30 . In Pattaya just bring your receive from hotel that you pay. I usually pay for hostel one night( 200 Bath ) in Bangkok and they sand me by whats up in the morning in 8am TM30 and i going to Imigration. First you going to information desk if they can not give you extension never will take your documents or money this is not embassy outside Thailand.

The 30 day's extention is at the discretion of the Immigration Office where you apply, it's not a given. All you can do is apply and hope for the best

I entered Thailand last November, for the first time in 2025, and was granted 60 days. So I am requesting an extension for another 30 days.

Are you going to extend your visa exemption entry (which is NOT a visa)

Or are you trying to extend an actual visa you obtained before entry to Thailand?

Do you mean your first entry of last year (2025), if you entered this year you won't be able to extend yet.

then you are unlikely to have any problems extending but will need a receipt of the TM30 filed by your landlord/hotel

I just done mine last week , with only a little hiccup, I just needed one more document from the owner of the condo I’m staying at. I used a visa agent, an extra 1000bth but worth it.

if you do not have an excessive visa-exempt entry or touristic stamp history, you should be fine an receive the 30-days touristic extension issued for 1900 THB, no worries. Most offices will check if you are TM30 registered at the place of accomodation, if you are not, they won't service you. At most offices you can get the extensions up from 30 days remaining on your entry stamp, but some offices will require you visit within the last 7 days

Every foreigner has to be reported in the TM30 system of Thai Immigration within 24 hours after arrival at an accommodation.

The reporting can be done online or in person and is called TM30 registration.

Your hotel, your landlord, your friend, your guesthouse or your resort are by law required to report a foreigner within 24 hours of arrival at the accommodation.

Immigrations have begun to enforce the TM30 a few years ago. On many Immigration offices, you will be refused any service unless your TM30 isn't up to date

I have never heard about it (maybe it was always just done). It seems to be another uncertainty whether a roadtrip into Laos can be made or not.

I wish there were much clearer rules, and a way to avoid looking like doing a "border run" (we have zero interest in getting any extra visa-exempt days).

the TM30 rule is existing since decades actually but wasn't really enforced until after Covid. When you check into a hotel, they copy your passport number and name details, because they will input your data into their TM30 reporting, you won't be aware of them doing so

Question: My guesthouse gave me the following documents: 1. A receipt for TM30 for payment to immigration, signed and with my name. 2. A 3-month contract for renting a room between me and the hotel. 3. Hotel registration. 4. Hotel owner's ID... Is this enough?

a TM30 registration is for free and doesn't need any payment. If the gave you a printout of their TM30 registration, this is just fine. You won't need anything else . . .just relax, because Immigration can see the completed TM30 from your guesthouse on their computer and won't ask you for anything else

Thailand is clamping down on border runs and people trying to circumvent and take the piss out of the system. Play by the rules and you are fine.

If you have a tourist visa, there should be no problem extending. Scrutinisation was increased for people entering on the visa waiver stamp.

Of course it’s your first of the year 🤣

Every immigration office is different in When they will extend it so visit your local immigration office and see how far out or how close to the end date they will allow you to extend it

Price is ฿1,900 for a 30 day extension

Good luck
