Is a U.S. Embassy Bangkok visa extension letter valid in Chiang Mai or Northern Thailand?

QUESTION:

I received a visa extension letter from the U.S. EMBASSY BANGKOK.. ok cool

However, I initially contacted the U.S. CONSULATE GENERAL - CHIANG MAI, was instructed to fill out an online form & list the city or province where I’m staying.. I entered Chiang Mai —

but as I mentioned, received a letter from the US Embassy BKK as opposed to a CM letter.

So my question is: Does anyone have experience using an Embassy BKK letter in Northern Thailand or elsewhere?

The US embassy letters ALL come from the same location no matter what branch of ACS (American Citizen Services) you use..

Are you TM30 registered as living in the area where you're obtained the US Letter?

It's called an Embassy letter because it's issued by an Embassy, not a consulate. Just like in any other country, the US has only one Embassy in Thailand, so it's perfectly normal.

Gotcha.. back in March, I received a letter from the Consulate Chiang Mai, so I thought it was odd that I’d receive one from the Embassy BKK

Ok cool.. also back in March, I asked Chiang Mai immigrants if I could report back my “under consideration” stamp in BKK & they said it had to be same immigration office in CM.

The government of the United States and the government of Thailand does not "split up" parts of Thailand. A letter from "Bangkok" will be accepted in Chang Mai (I doubt the US Consulate in Chaing Mai even issues the letters)

I guess they were issuing those letters then. However, different countries have different amount of consulates in Thailand. For example, the USA has two (one embassy and one consulate), but Laos has four (one embassy and three consulates). The immigration offices will have no idea which countries have which consulates where

I just found it interesting that one of the questions in the online form is which city/province you’re living in... I assume it was to issue a letter from that provinces consulate but if the Embassy BKK letter works for entire Thailand, then I guess that’s a mute point

I wonder if it's a demographics type question, to see which parts of Thailand are popular with Americans.
