What options do I have for extending my Thai visa if I'm in the US Embassy process for a 30-day extension?

I was at the Chiang Mai Airport Immigration office on an unrelated matter and discussed with them my Visa Status. I am a US Citizen and originally had a B Visa that I acquired overseas (sticker in passport), and then I went on Amnesty in May. I already bought an airline ticket and assumed I would be leaving on 26-Sept. I asked them if I had any options other than leaving on or before Sept. 26. They informed me that the US Embassy was now issuing letters to assist in requesting a 30 day extension. I went on the US embassy website, submitted my information, and am now waiting on my letter. Has anyone tried to get the thirty day extension yet, and have they been successful?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen currently in Thailand with a B Visa acquired overseas is seeking advice on extending their stay beyond September 26. They learned that the US Embassy can issue letters to assist with a 30-day extension and are awaiting their letter after submission. Community comments indicate mixed success with the extension letters; some have received them quickly, while others report that they only received an 'under consideration' status, which does not guarantee an extension. The advice suggests that unless an actual extension stamp is received, individuals should plan to leave by the due date.

Ok, I'm seeing a lot of responses saying that the letter from the US government is being issued, however hasn't been submitted. As of right now, I have not seen a passport with that extra 30 day stamp in it. Unless the stamp is actually in your passport, I would not assume you can stay an additional 30 days past amnesty.

I'm closing comments. If there is anything else to add, please message one of the mods. Thank you

I have received *NO* reports of anyone getting an additional 30 days of amnesty from the embassy letters. They have been getting an "under consideration" stamp, and asked to return around September 26.

Having an "under consideration" stamp does not mean a person will receive that additional 30 days.

Getting that under consideration stamp will cost 1,900 THB, and there is no refund if it is denied.

If you do not have other options to stay in Thailand, I recommend leaving by September 26.

I appreciate the advise, but I went to immigration office in Promenada and filed for extension and they said that I needed to return on 17-Sept to get final approval. They said 99% of applications will be approved as long as you have recent letter from embassy and all paperwork is in order. They were helpful and let me feeling very optimistic that it will be approved and will get 30 days beyond the Sept 26 end of amnesty. I will report back after 17th of Sept. for update.

Most people have been getting the letter sent back to them within hours.
