On applying for a Thai retirement visa for a couple can the bank account containing 1,600,000 baht be in a dual account or does it have to be two separate accounts in each other’s names of 800,000 baht. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires whether a couple can use a single bank account with 1,600,000 baht or two separate accounts of 800,000 baht each for their Thai retirement visa application. Responses clarify that only one spouse needs to have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account under their name, as the other spouse qualifies as a trailing spouse. Additional advice suggests entering Thailand with a visa exemption for further processing of the retirement visa.

As you have been experiencing problems with getting information needed for the Non O retirement Visa from the Aussie Thai Consulates...

...Suggest that you both fly to Thailand and enter Visa Exempt... ...

...That visa exempt entry gives you 45 days stamp on arrival if you arrive by March 31...plus One 30 day extension of stay at local Thai immigration office...

From April 1 the visa exempt entry gets you 30 day stamp

...Giving you either 60 or 75 days to obtain the needed Non O Visa for retirement for the husband...

.. Deposit the 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in one spouse name only... By international bank transfer..

...Then have the other spouse obtain a Non O Visa for retirement in a neighbor SE Asia Thai Embassy or Consulate

...Return to Thailand and apply for the one year extension of stay as retired as a trailing spouse.

.. Only one 800,000 Thai baht is needed in a Thai bank account in the husband's name...

.. Not 1,600,000 Thai baht as the other spouse is a TRAILING SPOUSE

but this doesn’t mention couples. So as a couple everything has to be individual including the bank account?

Read my reply. . only one 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account and the other spouse gets a trailing spouse extension to match that of the other spouse.

First ...

What is the passport nation of both of you?

I believe that you both are living in Australia.. BUT hold passports from New Zealand.

Second...

Are you now in Thailand?

Or planning on coming soon?

Third...

There's no requirement for the 1.6 million Thai baht to be in a Thai bank account in each of your names to get the retirement Visa and One year extension of stay as retired.

Fourth. .

I'm assuming that you are legally Married...??

And that One of you is age 50+ ??
