Is a high-yield savings account acceptable as proof of funds for the DTV Soft Power visa application?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I'm planning on applying for a DTV Soft Power visa through the Los Angeles consulate and had a question about proof of funds. The account I keep $17k+ in that I would provide statements for proof is a high yield online savings account administered by Goldman Sachs. Its not an investment account, its just a savings account and any transfer requests to my checking are done within 24 hours. Has anyone had any issues with that type of account being used as proof of funds.

My checking account statements show ending monthly balances of about $8k-$9k. Would including statements from that and explaining that I keep most cash in the savings and can have access within 24 hours to the savings if the need should arise?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about using a high-yield savings account from Goldman Sachs as proof of funds when applying for a DTV Soft Power visa at the Los Angeles consulate. They have approximately $17,000 in that account and also maintain a checking account with lower balances. Community responses suggest that using the high-yield savings account is generally acceptable, especially when applying from the U.S. due to familiarity with such institutions. Sharing statements from both accounts and providing a clear explanation in the cover letter may strengthen the application.

I had to apply through Washington, DC and only used statements from my HYSavings account. I was never asked for additional documents.

Marcus account should work.

Think you’ll be ok if you’re applying from US as they will be familiar with the banks and setup. It’s sometimes more tricky applying in Asia where they are not familiar with the institutions.

I applied in Hanoi and had the 500k+ in savings account for more than 6 months. I provided 6 months of those savings statements and 6 months of my checking account statements which had no significant balance and wrote about my financial situation in my cover letter. This is the post about my application:

When are you expecting to apply?

You can either transfer the rest of the 500k now to your checking account and explain why it wasn’t seasoned for 3 months (that you had it in savings account and add 3-6m of both statements). Or do as you said, and keep the money as it is and provide all statements for 3-6m and write about your situation clearly and simply in your cover letter.

Search at the top of the group for keywords around LA applications as there have been loads of posts recently from people applying there. You could also comment on their posts to ask them directly what financial set up they were approved with.

Good luck!
