Can I apply for a DTV visa online from the UK and what proof of funds do I need?

Hi everyone!

I am only interested to hear opinions from UK DTV visa holders, as it seems every embassy has its own set of rules, thanks.

This is my second attempt to get a DTV visa 😊 (my first try was in Penang this August). I’m currently in Thailand, and due to work, I’ll likely be flying to the UK in the next few days. I have a couple of questions:

1. Can I apply for the DTV visa online through the London embassy within the first or second day after my return to the UK?

1. For proof of residency, I have UK bank statements (personal account), a UK driving license (although it shows an old address), and *settled status* for living in the UK. Will this be an issue?

1. My main concern is proof of funds. My funds are in a WISE business account under my US-based company, where I’m the sole owner. This led to my rejection in Penang, as the account wasn’t in my personal name. How is this handled in the UK? As a freelancer, it’s common to use a business account, and with an LLC, the funds aren’t directly in my name. Despite providing proof of ownership, it wasn’t sufficient in Penang.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK DTV visa applicant seeks advice from other DTV visa holders about applying for the visa online through the London embassy shortly after returning to the UK. They inquire about acceptable proof of residency and funds, revealing past rejection due to funds being in a business account rather than a personal one. Community responses highlight complications of using a business account for visa applications, mention the need for personal accounts to show ownership of funds, and discuss varying embassy rules regarding documentation like bank statements, including the use of Wise accounts.

I can understand they did not accept, because legally the money is not yours, and also Wise is not a bank.

When you want to avoid problems, let your company transfer from the Wise account to a personal bank account, how hard can it be...

successful applicants have used Wise to show their 500k. It depends on the Embassy for approval. Penang is infamous for being strict with its' DTV approval.

Wise personal account, or wise business account? Because it is not the same .

I don't know, I have seen several posts that used Wise to evidence funds. They just noted Wise.

#3 is the issue, as you mentioned. There may be others, but this one is a problem.

There's a very fundamental fact that cannot be ignored:

The money in your company bank account is not yours.

A company is a 'legal person' in it's own right, despite you owning it 100%.

The company needs to pay you, into your personal account, for the funds to be yours.

It is very common for single-person company owners to do what you do, but it's really not legal and is technically 'embezzlement', until it's 'squared up', before tax return time.

Most folks just leave the mess to their accountant to sort out, which is fine, but this is a different type of scrutiny.

I understand that tax might be a driving factor for why you're doing what you do (US company - UK residency) but that's a separate issue.

I would also caution against trying to use a personal Wise account as an alternative, because Wise is not a bank.

Good luck!

Isn't it pretty basic to transfer funds from Wise to UK bank account?

I'll give you the same answers I did when I let your post on the TVA group 🙂

1 - yep apply online as soon as you hit the ground

2 - should work

3 - that's gonna be between you and the consulate and no one here is probably gonna have that answer..

It is doubtful you lost your application money in Penang and instead were just not allowed to apply.

Unfortunately on the eVisa system you pay right as you apply.

They can ask for more documentation if there are questions during the eVisa process

BUT

just so you know if you get rejected online thru the eVisa system and you're going to lose the application fee. 😕

The key difference here is that in this place, I can hear multiple voices, not just yours. That’s the essence of a public forum. In a democratic and open society, diverse opinions and experiences make the conversation more engaging. However, when only one person decides what can be published or not, it becomes less interesting to me. Have a nice day!

and as I said in my comment before you huffed out of the group, I answered to the best of my ability,

AND

I left your post open so others could weigh in as well

That you didn't like the answers I or other respondents provided doesn't mean they're the wrong answers 😕 Just it's not what you want to hear.

Sincerely good luck in your visa endeavors (y)

Tod Daniels,

It’s not that I dislike answers; it’s that I’m frustrated by receiving responses only from the same person, especially when that person also decides which posts are allowed or blocked. What’s wrong with my post? Did I say something impolite or illegal? Why aren’t other people allowed to freely answer my questions like they are in other forums? Why do you need to decide what is acceptable? If you want a forum that’s open to everyone, you should let people comment freely, not just be the only one commenting. It’s a bit crazy 🙂.

plently of people commented on your post, it wasn't removed, and commenting wasn't closed until you huffed off the group when I couldn't see any use in keeping it open anymore

Dunno where the attitude came from you've got, but as I said I wish you well in your endeavor getting a DTV (y)

You are saying I lie then? Why I need to lie about this, I have more important things to do to waste my time in stupid discussions, I know what I said, and I know what I do, I also had a notification about the removed post, anyway mate as I said, think what you wish 🙏, end of the conversation.

Totally agreed, some farangs that live in Thailand for a while think that they know everything and their answers/opinions are the only valid, ridiculous, I am here for one decade already and I never ever will think the other opinions are less valid or important than mine.
