TLDR : Answer Summary
The Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) allows for an initial stay of 60 days, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. However, repeatedly obtaining this visa can lead to increased scrutiny from Thai immigration authorities, who may deny further extensions if they suspect long-term residency. While there are no official limits to how often one can apply for a SETV, frequent renewals may raise red flags, resulting in potential rejections or restrictions by the embassy.

As it should be more than clear now. The Tourist Visa is not designed to live inside Thailand. You can use them for an uncertain period, one day a Thai Embassy or Consulate or Immigration at the Checkpoint will say engough. How long that is, nobody can tell you. Next to this it is not allowed to work inside Thailand without a Work Permit and the correct Visa, what ever your employer is telling you, it is simply not allowed. I close the commenting as the answers are clear and given and just to stop the discussion about illegal labor.

Last week my HK friend who have been living here on regular TR visa, visa exempted ,had been warned by the immigration officer computer that he is not allowed anymore without a TR visa.
Kenny *******
Ive been doing it for 6+ years... but it feels increasingly uncomfortable.

Just roughly costs you 100.000 for the first year 😉

@Ke***
Nance Its possible as digital nomad or whatever work you do to register a company in Thailand which grants you a "business" visa with 1 or 2 workpermits.
Robert *******
I don't tell you to get married or knock up a Thai girl. There are two visa options available to work in Thailand in combination with a work permit. How you make money is not the question or the answer, if you don't want to pay to get legal is your opinion. Do what ever you like, but it is your choice to feel increasingly uncomfortable.
Kenny *******
I dont think you are understanding here.... I'm not married, and I'm not working for a Thai company. I dont have Thai kids. I make my money on the internet. There is no visa option unless you want to get involved at one of those co-working spaces and give them 25-40% of your monthly income... and even those guys have been getting busted on occasion.

I used to do double entrees, those were great... But single entrees have been working. Until they offer another option, single entree tourist visas are all you can do... I dont see how you can morally argue marrying or knocking up a Thai girl for a visa.
Robert *******
Yes. For most of the foreigners working in Thailand. Some can use the Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage with a Thai National and a Work Permit.
Kenny *******
for a digital nomad?
Robert *******
It is called the Non Immigrant B visa and next to that the Work Permit.
Kenny *******
Surely. Cant wait for a digital nomad visa
Robert *******
Get the correct Visa to work in Thailand and the uncomfortable feeling disappears as snow for the sun.
Robert *******
No official rules. Thai Embassy and Consulate in surrounding area stop giving out the Tourist Visa if they think you have been long enough in Thailand. Next to that Immigration will at one time start asking questions on how do you support yourself, living without working inside Thailand.

Tourist visa.

As it says clearly ain't for living here

but for being tourists

So get the right visa
Robert *******
Thai Elite Visa as mentioned before.

@John ********
.

I don't say these are perfect condition but at all.

But I take the cards Thailand have dealt me and I use them in the best way without cheating in the game because of respect for the country I choose to live in

Let's not start with who's been here longest and that old chestnut but let's just say I didn't come in witth the 4 Train
John *********
If you say so. Whatever.
Robert *******
Hundreds of people willing to take a big risk just to stay inside Thailand till the moment it goes wrong. It's their choice not the employers choice.
John *********
@Zabel *****************
Don't see anyone asking for a free pass. You're ignoring how things work here.
John *********
@Robert ******
Most employers intentionally have foreign employees on part time, and thats their excuse for not getting a work permit. I can tell you hundreds of people in that situation. That is the reality.
John *********
@Robert ******
Not worth arguing about it, but you're wrong.

The majority of employers do not want to deal with work permits, etc. That's a reality. And that's established places like universities, or big film production companies.
Zabel ******************
@John ********
Trust me I'm dealing with them every day like everyone else have to i Dont have free pass
John *********
@Zabel *****************
I'm not blaming anyone. Just saying you're not dealing with realities.
Robert *******
@John ********
Reality is that for some reason people love to stay in Thailand for what ever it takes. Stop working illegal or stop complaining. Employers would have no choice if nobody want to work illegal.
Zabel ******************
@John ********
Don't blame me for the situations of your friends or the rules and laws of Thailand I just follow them simple as that
John *********
@Robert ******
Unrealistic. Majority of employers do not want to deal with it.
John *********
@Zabel *****************
That's not an answer. Read my above comment.

@John ********
The right visa is depending on what you are doing in Thailand
Robert *******
Please, To be guest in Thailand you have to follow the visa rules. There are options to get a longer term visa to be a tourist in Thailand like the METV or the Thai Elite Visa. For those who want to work, tell your employer to organise the Non Immigrant B visa and the Work Permit. No excuse, you're employer is not paying your fines, not going into jail for you and not getting deported to your home country. If you agree to work illegal, fine, but stop complaining about visa rules.
John *********
Yes, what is the 'right' visa. Some are evading the catch-22 here.

I know numerous teachers who are constantly dealing with visas, as the only places that give a work permit are international schools.

Universities do for full time, but I know many teachers at uni's who are put intentionally on part time, so they don't have to deal with the red tape of getting them a work permit/visa.

None of the English schools that I know offer that.

I know many in the film industry. It's even worse. As work is project to project/contract to contract. So if you're doing a commercial, you do sign a contract, that is in a sense a temporary work permit for the amount of time i.e. 1 day, 1 week, 1 month. Same with working on films, it's just for that period.

So some of the answers /responses on here aren't dealing with reality of those that aren't married,nor in a corporate work permit position.

I have money, but still unable unfortunately. With the exception of an elite visa
David ************
Jamie Brooks got it. Think it’s more clear now. Thought it was easier to get and Maybe just cost a bit of money.
Jamie ********
I don't work here, I'm not married to a Thai and I'm under 50.
David ************
Jamie Brooks it wasn’t rude I thought good advice. For my own and others education what reasons make you ineligible to get a proper visa. As an example, why are you ineligible to obtain one. This information can help people.
Jamie ********
Some people are unable to get other visas for whatever reason. I 'live' here on Tourist visas. No need to be rude to a valid question

@Toby *******
It sounded like solid advice to me
