If I was to enter Thailand on a 60 day SETV, how soon after my arrival can I go to my local Immigration office for a 30 day extension? I would hope to extend it ASAP to give myself lots of time to go to BKK and renew my UK passport as I've got just 5 blank pages left. Could I for example, fly into Chiang Mai one day on a SETV and then on the next working day get a 30 day entension at my local Immigration office?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you enter Thailand on a 60-day SETV, you can apply for a 30-day extension at your local Immigration office as soon as you have 45 days or less remaining on your current admission stamp. Therefore, you may have to wait a couple of weeks after your arrival before applying for the extension.

You should have no problem getting a new UK passport within 60 days. It usually takes about 2 weeks or less with vfs in bangkok

Just as an afterthought, you keep your existing passport and it isnt cancelled untill you pick the new one up from vfs, so you could still apply for your extention of stay with your existing passport while you apply and are waiting for the new passport. You just need to get your admitted to stay stamp transferred to the new passport when you get it, which is a free service at most immigration offices.

There are agents in bangkok that push the paperwork for you for a fee of around 5000bt but it would still mean a trip to the capital. I dont know about the 'knowing someone in thailand for 2 years'. Ive never heard of that before. It's a fairly simple process to do it yourself. Good luck which ever route you choose.

Good to know Steve. Thanks for the info. It's a pain I have to fly to BKK to submit and again to collect. I did look into a company who does the process for you, but it seems I would need to have someone here in Thailand who can say they have known me for 2 years. I don't have any such person.

Nope, in Bangkok and Chiang Mai you can apply for an extension of stay when you have 45 days or less left on your current admitted until stamp.

You'd have to wait a couple weeks once you stamped in to do it.
