Motorbike registration questions:

1.Can I legally drive a motorbike I purchased before the ownership transfer from the bike shop?

It's currently registered and insured by the owner.

2. For a certificate of residence; I need to submit the TM30 documents..

Will a hotel receipt suffice, or is a rental contract required? I'm in the process of looking for a permanent residence.

I'm staying on a retirement visa, but relocated recently to another province.

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has questions regarding the legality of driving a motorbike prior to ownership transfer and what documents are required for obtaining a TM30 residence certificate. According to community responses, it is generally permissible to drive the motorbike if you have the bill of sale or permission from the previous owner. For the TM30 residence certificate, having a hotel receipt may suffice outside Bangkok, but a rental contract is recommended for more permanent residency verification. It's also suggested to request a screenshot from the hotel of their TM30 filing.

I've driven in fine in a few countries. I won't drive in India.

On number 1. If you have the bill of sale you are fine riding it. It usually takes a month, or two to get the green book with your name in it.

Thanks. I'll ask for that when I pick it up tomorrow.

1. If you’ve been given permission to ride the bike then there’s no issue.

2. Ask your hotel for a screenshot of their filing a TM30. That will suffice for a residency certificate (outside of Bangkok.). Inside you’d need to have done a 90 day report before immigration would issue one.

You can also ask your embassy for one.

I think you are saying I need to do the 90 day here in Phuket before they will issue a COR?
Stuart *********
@Jeh ****
no. In Phuket they’ll issue a residence certificate on any visa type (or exempt).

Interesting... I thought I had to do a 90-day report when moving to the new province before I could be issued a COR.

Not in Phuket.

You’ll need the screenshot of the TM30 filing. A copy of your passport data page, a copy of your visa/entry stamp and a photo. Cost is 300baht for the “fast track” service. Free if you’re happy to wait a week.

Depends on which province you are intending to register within and the immigration office policy.
