Does anyone know how long I need to have had £11k in my UK bank account when I apply for the DTV?

I've looked at the Thai Embassy's UK's website, but there is no specific information there pertaining to this question.

(I'll be applying for a soft power DTV - Muay Thai..).

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on the duration for which they need to maintain £11,000 in their UK bank account when applying for the DTV visa (soft power for Muay Thai) in Thailand. While there's no specific guidance available on the Thai Embassy's website, several comments suggest there might not be a strict rule regarding the duration, and that the financial requirement generally relates to having sufficient funds for potential emergencies. The conversation indicates a lack of concrete information, with users sharing their experiences and varying interpretations.

The reason for you to have the 500.000 Baht in your own account, is if you ie. get involved in a accident, then you have proven you got 500.000 Baht in your possesion to pay hospitalbills, damage to other parties etc.

Travel insurance would cover that. Plus, if it's in an account for anything from a day to 6 months, it's not going to cover a 5 year visa so..

How about in Vietnam (hanoi)🇻🇳 ? I have the same question

I've heard that Vietnam is a good option but I don't want to fly there and am heading back to the UK soon in any case so... Good luck.

It’s currently about £12,000 (& perhaps continuing to climb) as the baht is holding strong whilst other currencies, like the £ not doing so well… 💴

On the UK Embassy site, it states £11,000, but I think that could change.

Anonymous participant Yes, maybe a couple of weeks out of date. The required 500,000 baht is what it’s based on. Good luck anyway! 🙏🏻

Thank you. Will have to start worrying about what they'll do re. double taxation next I suppose!

When you apply in the UK, the 500k can be banked same day or earlier.

Blimey, that'd be useful. Did you apply for the soft power DTV?

I applied Workcation in Taipei but was initially going back to London to apply and contacted the embassy there about what was needed.

Thanks Andi. Are the workcation criteria different though? I can call when I'm back in the UK, but am in Thailand atm and just want to have some kind of plan. So, theoretically, one could have the 500k in the bank for one day and successfully apply. It's interesting that things vary so much depending on country of application.

You can apply nearby to Thailand like Vietnam, Cambodia etc. Yes the DTV applications are embassy specific. You can show evidence of the 500k with it being banked for one day. If you extend your 180 days at an immigration office then you may be required to show it banked for several months. London Embassy is responsive to email enquires. Workcation differs in providing more info on your job, contract, portfolio etc.

Yeah, I've no interest in going to other countries to sort this and am headed back to the UK next month anyway. Thanks for your replies.

Ok, London has a good reputation for quick approvals.

Have you read the posts about getting the DTV visa from the UK Thai Embassy?
Jari **********
Nobody dont know 100% sure

..they may ask for a bank statement if you apply for an extension of 180 days. There's probably no common rule.

@Jari *********
From reports so far it does look like they will ask to see the 500k again for an extension

Really?! I thought that once we obtained the visa we'd be good to go for 5 years. I won't have that amount in my account indefinitely so...
Greg ********
Anonymous participant Immigration look like they are going to ask you to show the money again in your account for an in country extension. That is why the consensus is to do border runs to get another 180 days rather than an extension. However, Immigration have every right to ask you to show this upon a re-entry. This does not look as likely but never say never. It is entirely within their discretion and has been made clear.

Greg Bewick Thanks for this information, Greg. It won't be an issue to fly out and in again every 180 days.

Anonymous participant Def the best option till it all settles down. Great places to go for a few days in the region with 2 hours or less flight as good prices.
