I got my reyirement visa extension in January based on 800,000 in bank. My inderstanding is that the account can never drop below 400,000. My question is whether I have to leave the full 800,000 in for a specific period after the extension is granted?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After obtaining a retirement visa extension in Thailand based on a bank balance of 800,000 baht, the holder must maintain that amount for three months post-extension. Subsequently, the account balance must never dip below 400,000 baht. Additionally, before applying for the next extension, the balance must return to 800,000 baht for two months, which is calculated from the time of application, not the expiration of the visa.

In Hua Hin they say has to be 800 000 for 60 days before and after. Can go down to 400 000. Is every office different or is there lot of incorrect answers as usual. Seem to get too many people answering that don't know anything

Would a married couple need to deposit the 800,000 total or 800,000 each ?

yes and no.. if you get a spouse extension, it's 400k for 2 months prior to applying. After acceptance, you can do whatever you want with the 400k and they also don't care where it came from. If you choose to use a joint account with wife, it needs to be 800k because th ai law sees all assets and liabilities as

unless stated otherwise in prenup. Thai law doesn't give a shit about

when it comes to visas though... ironic.

Eg foreign women married to thai men don't any money at all.

Two retirement visas is two accounts with 800k, if you can get a trailing spouse Non-O then it's only one for the retirement visa

can do dependent/trailing spouse, or have separate visas , so yes you can keep one 800k amount

my wife and I are both over 55. Would the trailing spouse non-o work?

you will most likely have to apply for the trailing spouse visa in your home country.

You can not do them in Thailand or any surrounding Asian country .

Yes. The rule is 800,000 for 3 months after your extension is granted. Then it can never drop below 400,000. Then it must be back up to 800,000 for 2 full months before you apply for your extension (NOT 2 months before your extension ends, it's 2 months before you will go and apply)

Thank you for the comprehensive response. 800k for sixty days prior to the day one applies for a retirement visa. You saved me asking the question.

@Michael ***********
not 60 days. 2 months. Be careful with that.
