TLDR : Answer Summary
The renewal period for a retirement visa in Thailand varies by location and can range from 30 days to 3 months before the expiry date. Common practices from different regions include: - Chiang Mai: Typically 30 to 40 days. - Sri Racha: Up to 2 months. - Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, and Buriram: Generally allow renewal 45 days or less. - Jomtien: Up to 3 months prior. - Koh Samui: 30 days. - Hua Hin: 45 days. Due to these variations, it is advisable to check with the local immigration office for specific rules applicable to your area.

The obvious lesson here is "Check with your local Immigration Office". It could be anywhere between 1 month and 3 months.

It seems to depend on which office you go to. Last time I renewed mine it was 7 weeks before expiry - at Sri Racha Immigration (they told me it was possible up to two months before). I understand some other offices say only one month.

I usually do it concurrent with the 90 day to save a trip.
