TLDR : Answer Summary
It is crucial to have a departure ticket when entering Thailand, especially on a tourist visa. While immigration rarely denies entry for not having a ticket, airlines are stricter and may not allow boarding without one. A flexible or changeable ticket is recommended for ease of travel, and inexpensive onward flight tickets can be purchased online.

Covid was at its worst as long as you have a return flight you can change as and when you want I’ll be doing the same myself as I don’t know when I’m going to return 👍🇹🇭🇹🇭

I bought a very inexpensive ticket to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia a few years ago when I first moved to SE Asia.

Your visa will tell you how long you can stay

Check these suggestions out,
RETURN TIX and ONWARD TIX , it’s good information all around
I am entering on a 60 day tourist Visa staying 88 as I work of shore I am married to a Thai I have a copy or my marriage certificate with me but don't need a marriage visa as I work 8 months a year offshore I am flying with Qatar Airways from uk should a get an Onward ticket to be safe. Or do you think I will be fine
Not always the case. I took a flyer with it (Flyer get it?!!) This week and I was not asked via Qatar from Manchester but it is the safer option to have it so that you are covered. 30 day tourist on arrival. But if anybody has any queries follow Stuart Cummings adice. Very knowledgable and helpful.
You may get away with it, but your airline may be an issue. As stated some will let you. Many won’t. Flip a coin at check in and see which way they swing.
You need to have a flight ticket out of Thailand within the amount of days that your initial entry allows, regardless that you can get an extension in country. It doesn’t need to be a return ticket, any ticket out of Thailand will suffice.
In theory immigration can deny you entry if you don’t but they rarely ever would, because they know you can get an extension.
Almost always the hang up will be when you try to board your plane. Many airlines will not allow you to board without an onward ticket within the number of days.
Some will let you. Many won’t. You probably don’t want to be the one scrambling to buy an onward ticket at the check in desk. Best option is a changeable ticket, and just change the date when you’re here.
Alternatively you can Google “onward flight ticket” and you’ll find a plethora of companies willing to sell you one for around $10.
I booked my plane ticket back to Thailand for mid January. When I seen the price of a return ticket I just settled for that...it's almost as cheap as a one way ticket....and a little less hassle .than having to purchase an onward flight.
hi Stuart. These onward flight tickets for 10$, do they work? I’m trying to decide between booking a flight to Phnom Penh within my allowed days but a few people have suggested these onward tickets like you mentioned but feels a bit unusual. Just worried to have issues with it
according to the websites that issue them, they’re real tickets, searchable on the airline databases. I couldn’t confirm that, but I believe the companies behind them are travel agents who genuinely write a ticket, but then cancel it for no cost to themselves, but get $10 from you for doing so. Pre covid times with land borders open you could use a bus ticket out. $4 or so. Can’t use that option these days.
