One thing I didn't know, a covid extension starts from the date you apply, not the date of visa expiry.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The COVID-19 extension in Thailand starts from the date of application rather than the expiry date of the current visa. Most immigration offices follow this rule, which means if you apply early, you lose the remaining days on your current visa stamp. However, if you've utilized previous extensions, the COVID extension may begin from the end of your last extension. It's recommended to check specific immigration office policies as they can vary.

Okay, we're done. As a rule, the way it works at MOST offices is IF you get the 60 day covid extension without getting any 'regular' extensions you can get (like a 30 day extension from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry) they start it the date you show up and apply (meaning if you go early you lose the days on your current stamp)

BUT

IF you get a 60 day covid extension AFTER you've gotten all the extensions you can get on an entry, even though the under consideration stamp is dated the date you apply, when they put the extension stamp in they start the 60 days from the date your current extension ends.

OR at least that has been the case at a LOT of immigration offices.

And ALL 60 day covid extensions in Bangkok get the under consideration stamp where you go back and get the extension. Totally normal

report back on the 9th after you get your extension inked in and let us know when it runs out.

, hang about.. Did you just get an "under consideration" stamp with a return date or did you get your 60 day extension stamped in?

I'm on the last week of 30 day extension after coming in on a 60 day TR ( 90 day total). Visa runs out on 11 was due to fly back on 7th bf flight was cancelled. I have to return on 9th to find out if received 60 day extension(under consideration) stamp just gives date I applied and return date to office, they stamped it on another page

@Will *****
Right so you have NO IDEA if when you get the 60 day extension it will start the date your current stamp runs out the 11th OR on the 9th when you go back

All you got was an under consideration stamp ;) of course today's stamp has today's date as that was when you applied :P

How about we wait until you go back and get the extension to see IF they add the 60 days to your expiration date on the 11 or if they started it on the date you showed up today ;) Report back on the 9th

now I'm confused.. what I was told is that my extension wd be from today not when visa expires and have to go back on 9th to get stamp, Ive paid already. We were told it has to be approved by someone higher up, assumed it's a formality. Hope that is the case and I'm not scrambling to buy anew ticket on 9th.

So you were on a 60 day tourist visa entry stamp? And then you went straight to the covid extension?
Tod *********
what extension or entry stamp were you on when you applied for the covid extension?
Benjamin ******
Different immigration offices have different policies. *MOST* immigration offices have the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 start on the day you apply for the extension, and is not added to your existing stamp.
