TLDR : Answer Summary
The application period for new visas or COVID-19 extensions in Thailand varies by immigration office. In major locations like Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Phuket, and Chiang Rai, applicants can apply for extensions when they have 45 days or less remaining on their current visa stamp. However, for other immigration offices, the standard timeframe is 30 days. It's advisable to check with the specific immigration office for their rules, especially since there are over 70 immigration offices in Thailand.

So this doesn't turn into a "at my immigration office" post, if the immigration office a person is using is NOT listed in my list, ask the immigration office. Some have websites, some have Facebook pages. There's 70+ immigration offices in Thailand, and I don't have time to go through all the immigration offices.

Depends on the immigration office. Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Phuket, Chiang Rai and a couple other ones (Surat Thani/Samui maybe) all allow people to apply for extensions when they have 45 days or less left on their current stamp.
